Researching AWD Conversion
They did that for the Evo IX in that Tokyo Drift movie so it could smoke tyres easily to appeal to hoons and also so it drifted like an FR. (those movies are all corny nonsense I know, but I still love em). Mechanically it was mostly stock.
BUt, as mentioned, they did it with ease in Tokyo Drift possibly by removing a Fuse ---- removing a fuse in the R32 GTR Skyline will simply stop the frotn diff from working because it's electronically, so it'll then switch to RWD. A lot of people dyno GTR's and even 4wds as RWD when only a 2wd dyno is available. Whilst AWD is engaged, computers control the bias for maximum grip and all that? The Outlander (as also mentioned) is 100% mechanical --- therefor AWD fulltime, i believe.? So no ... it wouldnt be as easy to make a RWD Lancer using an Outlander drivetrain --- the new model outlanders however may be a different kettle of fish.
Actually if I am not mistaken and I will have to pull my DVD out and look at the extras and making of the movie, I think they removed the front CV axles for that movie to make it rear wheel drive only. I dont think you can just pop a fuse on an evo and make it rear wheel drive. I think its set up as a front wheel drive car and then uses the rear for suport, not the other way around. Remember the older evos came with the same drive train as the outlander did sooooo I wouldnt really complain about it. I would like to have a mechanical AWD anyways since there would be less to mess with when the time comes to mantain it ect. Just my 2 cents worth.
Here is the transfer case, prop-shaft and Rear Differential I receieved today.

These parts were off an 03, Whereas I'd intended them to be from an 04-05! Luckily it seems the transfer case is identical even when the engine was 4G64, and there is also no difference, physical or ratio-wise between manual and auto either.

Diavlo, An evo conversion has done already. check "MODIFIED MAG" november 06 issue. A mirage turn to EVOcoupe AWD. All parts are completely evo, no outlandish parts.

Yeah Evo has completely different rear suspension, Outlander And Lancer is the same except for the crossmember. On the Outlander it has a Dif mount built in and is bolted in. Lancer doesnt have the diff mount and its welded in.
