Isn't it time you get featured in a magazine or at least on EVOM! Should be when you have your AWD setup!

I'll make sure to let the big boys know haha.

Well, when I actualy have done it, then maybe!

My options for brand new 05-06 outlander transaxles are as follows:

For 4G69 (2005-2006):

Automatic Transaxle, outlander, 4g69, 2wd 05-06 $3,594.34
Automatic Transaxle, outlander, 4g69, awd 05-06 $4,137.76
Manual Transaxle, outlander, 4g69, 2wd 2005 $2,022.00
Manual Transaxle, outlander, 4g69, awd 05-06 $2,229.87

For 4G64 (2003):

No Manual Transaxle

Automatic Transaxle, outlander, 4g64, 2wd 2003 $3,716.37
Automatic Transaxle, outlander, 4g64, awd 2003 $4,217.44

My only option with the Evo is the 5-Speed 2005 Transaxle.

Obviously, I'll match the rear diff to the transaxle.

Most likely go for the outlander MT one.

Diavlo, did you look at the link I posted about the eclipse rear awd swap? If not, read it. If the rear crossmember can be swaped directly like the one on the eclipse, 2wd to Awd, you should no problem about putting in the rear dif in. I just wonder which one will be the one to work in the non evo lancers. Either use the outlander rear crossmember which, if the chassis is the same, should be a direct swap, or use the evo rear crossmember, which uses a completely different shock set up.

Imagine that, AWD RA, and if someone can, try a RWD RA

Personally, I would just go with 4g63t swap if the awd works, but having an awd 4g69 with turbo sounds great too.

Right, just to let you all know - Im 100% commited to this now. And have just ordered the parts for Phase 1:

AWD Outlander Fuel Tank
Outlander Fuel pump and sending unit (Fuel pump has an inlet on it for fuel from the right hand part of the fuel tank being sent by the sending unit)
Right-pod fuel sending unit.

And I need to measure up and get a piece of exhaust pipe made.

The Outlander and Evo fuel tanks have two separate sides, with two pumps, and a small passage at the top between them so when you fill up, both are filled. The two pumps - One sends from the left pod to the engine, and the other pump, called the sending unit, sends fuel from the right pod into the right fuel pump/fuel tank.

At the same time Im gonna cut the exhaust and re-route it under the rear tie-bar area as with the Outlander.

Once thats done, I can continue to drive around FWD, until I've got the rest of the parts for the swap.

I have read that Eclipse AWD swap 0- but I've already realised that this is a bit simpler than that - because the outlander has an AWD set-up using rear lancer suspension.

To mount the differential, I can weld, fabricate brackets, drill through the chassis... Eiother way, we'll get it mounted, we fabricated a couple of brackets for the engine swap, so thats nothing new. I'll get the front, rear and two side-brackets that mount it in the outlander anyhow, and then be inventive with some special tools (one of which usually ends up being a hammer) to use those stock mounting points.

There is a suptle difference between AWD and FWD outlander/lancer suspension - and that is that in the AWD version, the rear subframe bolts on - in order to do maintenance on the differential - on the lancer and FWD outlander - its welded in. But I can get around that - I dont believe its vital as there are no other differences.

I said in my first engine swap topic, that by the end I'd have converted a 1.6 lancer to a 2.4, and I did.

Now Im telling you this - Whatever it takes, I'm now comitted to this, and I'll have an AWD lancer (with the outlanders option to swtich between FWD, AWD and Locked 4WD), and perhaps it will be something people can copy with junk parts.

Anyhow, first things first, Fuel Tank and exhaust re-route!

Finally, regarding the RWD RA - The Outlander is able to send 10/90 power to the front/rear, under heavy acceleration. I was reading that the other day!

Yeah I hear it a lot here, people saying they'll do something, then you never hear anything again. All it takes usually to get me doing something is if I think its possible, its something Id like to do, Something I can do myself, and most importantly, some people say its impossible!

I'll make a topic of the whole process when the time comes. I'll post pics of the parts in this topic as proof of its progress also.

You are by far the most "entertaining" on the board. I look forward to your project.

The only thing I like about the eclipse swap is that the only welding that had to be done was to the brackets that hold the drive shaft. Although the bolts for the rear crossmember had to be replaced with shorter ones, for some reason they decided to put them in there, it didn't require cutting and welding of the rear crossmember. The fuel tank shouldn't be a problem, it should just bolt up, with minor work like on the eclipse. Sorry, I own an eclipse and owned a Mirage and only have those to compare to your project. I researched going awd on the mirage and just gave up when I saw my 98 eclipse rs on the Mitsubishi lot. Ever since, I too have been wanting to do an awd conversion to it. But I am considering getting a ralliart lancer if projects like this work. Thats why I'm putting in my 2 cents with my knowledge. That way you can hurry up and get started. lol
