Quote: I would agree with everything that ambystom01 has stated in this entire thread. Once you start "modifying" a car, guess what? Stuff might break. Someone said to put it back to stock and take it in to get warrantied....that is shady as hell, and is a sad attitude that people have today. Take responsibility and fix it yourself.

+1. While not as many miles as Otter (only 63,000), trans is no problem. {knocks on wood} I have kept it pretty happy though (fresh lube always makes teh trans happy).
Oh...and no need for the double de-clutch downshift here. Just a rev match will do or perhaps a heel-toe from time to time.
Yep, as I said above, it is modded, and I wasn't expecting mitsu to do it under warranty, but it would be awesome if they did. and i did ask if there were other places people recommended I ship my tranny to to be rebuilt, no answers so far though. also looking at the other thread for synchro prices if i do it myself.

as for double clutching.. I don't HAVE to do it either... but I just do because thats the way I learned.

good news, the go ahead from the regional service rep has been approved. They'll tear it down and inspect what ever needs replacing. Won't happen till the week after family day though since I need the car for things in my schedule next week.

Take it in, hand them the keys, tell them the tranny is messed up, run out door. Don't say a word about aftermarket.

let me know if it stops that grinding noise. this morning when it was -20 i did a high gear acceleration from a low speed and the girnding noise was more like a pop-pop-pop-pop-pop really quickly. (I'm trying hypermiling out this week [so thats why i'm using higher gears to accel] and i think i'll be able to go 150 km more before the gas light turns on from what it's going at right now, so 500 km to the tank instead of the 350 km i've been getting the past few months)

Update time!
Good news and bad news.
The good news is my car is at the dealership for them to dissassemble and inspect the tranny...
The bad news is that I miss my car already
Good news, they gave me a loaner car!
bad news, It's a POS and makes me miss my car even more...

haha, just kidding about the bad news (not meant to complain but to rather tell) The loaner I got was a 2006 Lance ES, I don't like that it's a bit anemic in the torque, no ABS, no LSD, and it's an automatic... for a minute when I first tried to start it i was like... wtf.. where's the clutch? then when I'm driving I always want to downshift when coming to some lights and I go to step on an imaginary clutch that doesn't exist.

the no ABS, no LSD, and all season tires don't help any seeing how we just got dumped with 5 cm of snow with it going to be snowing all week long... but atleast they gave me a loaner =)

I'll keep you all updated as I get the info.
How did your car go Thomar?

Ah, its going. Dealer replaced the front right strut and strut bearing under warranty, so... good stuff. Feels much better on the road.

Im curious what they'll find wrong. New synchros for you!

They said they already pre-air-ordered parts over so we'll see how everything goes. I LOVEEEEE westside. =D

btw, do you know how much the parts would have costed you if you didn't have warranty? I need new strut mount/bearings since my evo VIII ones are making noises

Nice that they may warrantee it. For those who suggested not admitting to any mods I had a similar thing happen to a friend. He had installed carbon synchros and a kaaz LSD. Blew out 2nd gear, tried to cover it all up saying it was stock. They warranteed the tranny job. So a replacement came in a box they installed it and shipped his back as a core.

Some lucky sap will be getting a kaaz diff from the rebuilder.

As soon as you race a car all warrantee expectations should go out the window. While I stand behind my work if someone blows one of my engines on the first corner of the first lap I do not expect them to ask for a warrantee. Auto-x is racing and I have heard that some vehicles had warrantees cancelled because they were sighted at the dragstrip.

yea i think for the ralliart, at southside, they had it advertised for like 200 bucks plus change for the strut, 300 installed. Something like that.
