GM chose a SC for the cobalt, because it's a more reliable system for warranty. In the past twenty years, domestic turbos have been very crappy to maintain from the XR4Ti to T-bird turbo coupe to DSM (lesser extent on mechanical stuff) to GN or Cyclone. After a very long period of time, it would leak oil like there's no tomorrow.

Why do you think Buicks and Pontaics have SC on the 3800 motor (if I remember the name correctly).

true, but im not feeling the "takes power, to make power"... also if you get deeper into modding turbocharging is better suited all around.

From what I've read about the Cobalt SS, it'll just be another straight-line car. Also, the MSRP is actually HIGHER than on the SRT-4, and the SRT-4 is more powerful. The Cobalt won't have fully independant suspension, use cheap brake setups (unvented), and are in general very similar to the cavalier. Just slapped a SC on there for a so-so 200hp. Granted, the car may very well end up being easily tweakable to out-power the SRT-4, but I doubt it.

Definitely, but you have to remember that the Ion/Cobalt have a brand new (to the US anyways) chassis which they're built on. The Neon has the same old and tired platform. It's kinda like comparing the S-ER Spec V to the RA. Yeah the Sentra will get you there faster, but it's a big motor in a junk chassis. The RA is infinitely more refined.

The GMs will be MUCH nicer than any SRT-4. Might not be as fast, but they'll be quick, and they'll definitely be classier.

The Cavalier and Cobalt have absolutely nothing in common. They may look somewhat similar, but it's brand new everything otherwise.

from that magazie they tested, they said it handles very well, and that it's just not a straight line shooter.

The RA will absolutely destroy any Corolla S. Now, the Corolla XRS is a little different, since they have 170 hp. But their torque is quite low, so RA will have them off the line without a problem.

I raced my friends Jetta 1.8T and It wasn't even close. He was pissed too. But there are 2 versions of the 1.8T one is 150 Hp and the other is 180 HP. I havn't raced the 180 Hp but I imagine that with the tubo lag it would be close.
