The Ultimate 2009 Ralliart Thread mega merge
Mitsu is only putting in the SST is because it's new and they are trying to get it out there. This SST transmission is something that I'm sure Mitsu spent lots of money on research and development. Now they have to advertise it as much as possible in the first year or so otherwise what's the point of spending all the time and money to make one. I bet the second year production of this new RA will have a 5/6spd manual available and maybe even the same for the Evo X MR. Mitsu knows that people that want the Evo X MR or the RA will end up buying it with the SST because that's the only choice and the car is new and people want new NOW. Then a year or less from now there will be news of an EVO X MR or RA coming with a manual and a few will complain because they bought first year models with the SST when they truelly wanted a manual. Some will endup trading in for the manual RA or EVO X MR and therefore more money for Mitsu. IMO.
I don't know what everyones deal about the SST is. No one on this board (Aside from perhaps a few mitsu employees or other special cases) have even driven one, and no one knows how it will handle additional power. Geez, you may actually like it, so give it a chance or buy an EVO. I mean ralliart + mods = EVO MSRP.
Moot point, anyways, because there are currently no known plans for the new sportback to make it stateside. It's a euro market item.

I find it funny every talks about launch and straight line acceleration. the sst is to maintain durability(not mashing all the bhp in to a 3.6 tooth mesh) it made to carry momentum and control exit acceleration you know when people actually turn. I know when i rally that tapping a paddle would make it way easier to focus on the codriver and the road then tryng to clutch and left foot brake. but its just my opinion and im sure ill get trashed for it but eh..
It's annoying and makes absolutely no sense.
Know why it wont be 30k? Simple. If it were 30k then packaging and options, let's say I add Recaros, HID's, Navigation as these are all not standard;
Moonroof, Recaros, HID's are sure to be part of 1 package then you can bet will be upper $2,000+
Navigation will be (as always) $2,000
Adding that would take me to 34k. Now if your spending 34k tell me why you wouldn't just buy a GSR?
With this logic it cannot be 30k. My guess is it will Base price around $25,995 , fully loaded will be 29k and you will see the Lancer GTS at a slighty lowered price.

Can you just not read those comments and not need to start a whining thread? Those people will be proven wrong if indeed it is not 30K and you will be correct. I'm not taking sides but you just typed a bunch of words with no proof. When the price is released for the new 09 RA you/they can prove one or the other wrong.

Base will most likely be mid $20k, but a loaded one will come close to $30k. That's what I've posted, and I think that's what most people mean when they say $30k...they are including the HID, Recaro, DVD/NAV options. Didn't know it bothered you so much haha.
I don't see what all the whining and complaining is really about. Have any of you tried the Audi/VW DSG? It's basically the same thing except with this SST you are getting formula 1 technology (with the paddles) in a daily driver. I've slush boxed through the last four years in my ES and would be thrilled to be able to choose my own gear, even if my left foot had no say in it. I'm saving up for this new RA. My past turbo ES plans have now been scrapped in favor of a much more comfortable Lancer with factory turbo and all wheel drive. Who cares about no full manual box, it has all wheel drive and I won't blow up my current Lancer learning how to properly turbocharge it. Just be happy that Mitsubishi hasn't turned our beloved Lancer into a pastiche performance car like it did with the post second gen Eclipse and is finally investing in it's performance image in a big way.
