The answer to manual vs auto shifting is simple. what is it that you are doing that you have to get enjoyment from shifting gears? maybe THAT'S the problem...
look at some BM touge videos. the pace is so frenetic that they sometimes can't shift fast enough and instead elect to keep their hands on the wheel so as not to crash. tell me they are enjoying the shifting vs the excitement of touge racing...
THAT'S why the ferrari F1 tranny was made. THAT'S why the SST was made.
shifting is overrated. find that perfect apex instead of finding the correct gear.

I did not mention 'carburetors', and I very definitely did not mention anything automatic -- in fact my post was absolutely the opposite of automatic (did you actually read my post? -- if you didn't, don't worry, I've made the same moronic mistake myself when responding...)
What I did say was that there are plenty of ways to improve control over a car, such as independent controls for front and rear power, that aren't implemented because they're either a waste of effort or because they make a car too complicated. Traditional (single clutch) manual transmission is often a waste of effort, but it really depends where and how you're driving, and what level of complexity you're capable of handling while you drive.
I notice no one here is railing against AWD or traction control, even though both are very definitely automatic operations (at least as they're implemented in the Ralliart). Why is it considered so evil when they mess with gear-shifting, but not so evil when they mess with traction or implement automatic control over drive power to the wheels? Seems they are all comparable.

I'm thinking I may just wait until I turn 25 and just buy an Evo (Insurance)
I'll be 23 this summer, and that will give me a good 2 years or so to save up for a sizeable payment toward a 2011 Evolution....

Shifting gears isn't even something I think about - its all very natural being a DD myself...
I will be disappointed if they do not offer the ralliart in a manual setup in this 09 model, but I don't think its something that will be a deal breaker for me (although I go back and forth on this issue).
I myself have not driven a Dual clutch setup, or a paddle shift style vehicle so I guess we'll just have to wait and see
All this waiting SUCKS

, when in day to day it is definitely more enjoyable driving manual
My parents told me that they were going to get me a civic si at the end of this month... so I've been patiently waiting around for a good year now. My parents were about to buy their plane tickets to fly over here to central, NY (where I attend college) to drive me out to the city to get the civic si... BUTTTTTT I saw that the ralliart was going to be released this summer!! I told me parents to hold off on the plane tickets and I'll work a little longer to earn the price difference between the si and the ralliart. Hmmm looks like I'm going to have to wait a little bit longer for a car. Oh well, back to riding my bike. PLEASE MITSUBISHI!! RELEASE THE CAR ALREADY!! THERES NOTHING TO DO HERE IN CENTRAL, NY WITHOUT A CAR!! I'M STUCK ON CAMPUS!!
Release Time Frame for '09 RA?
So I go to talk to my dude at the dealership yesterday (because I had some time to kill, and was in the neighborhood) to see if he knew the date when the '09 RA would really hit the dealers (rumors of summer release).
He does the car ordering, so he went to check to see if it was listed in his system for him to order. He said he could see out to August, and it wasn't available for him yet. Told him to shoot me a note when they arrive, cause I wanted to drive one.
He said he would.....but not expecting him to contact me until like September probably.....unless something changes.
Good thing is...he knew it was coming at least and was excited about it.
On a side note, he just got a shipment in of the '09 GTS (with the 2.4L...yes I had to tell him it had a 2.4L
). He had one sitting near the door that they literally just pulled off the truck. We went out for a short drive to check it out.
First impression: it's friggin' FAT. FAT FAT FAT.
CVT....was cool and pretty seamless. Would need more time for a proper review. The car felt more "luxury" than "sporty" though.
The 2.4L wasn't that bad. Could tell it was choked down considerably. Didn't look like the 4G69 though, and it was configured like the 2.0L (exhaust toward the firewall, not wrapped under the motor).
But you know what's really cool? The dude knows I am an enthusiast and won't pressure me with a stupid sales pitch. He also understands I might know a lot more than he does.
