Very interesting. Yeah, Japanese sites don't need to be terra incognito anymore, do they? This is what the guy in Oz is looking for as well, using ETS (not HKS) and Unichip. Though, according to the calculators I found, HKS got 377 hp (up from 285 hp) instead of 400 hp. But if the increased torque (354 ft-lbs up from 325 ft-lbs) can be maintained up into higher rpms, you could easily get to 400 hp.

In any case, it certainly seems reasonable that an increase in torque of less than 10% would be within the SST's TCM parameters.

Side question...

Does anyone else feel hesitant to buy a brand new turbo'd ralliart with the way gas prices are going?

if you want any car these days with some decent power, it'll most likely need premium fuel...unless you get a large domestic V8 or large V6.

I'm in the market for a new car this year and have set my sights on the 09 RA. The premium fuel requirement is just one of those things where you have to bite the bullet for the sake of performance and some fun.

Here in Canada the prices are more stable -- our dollar tends to go up when oil prices do.

If you add up the cost, then the difference between 25mpg and 35mpg isn't really that steep -- the environmental cost is probably the only thing worth worrying about here, not the financial cost. Besides, the fact that something this powerful is likely to be around 25mpg is an achievement in itself -- not too long far in the past that was considered good mileage.

[I'm referring to the new US mpg rating scheme, not the old one, which was a fair bit more generous]

In our local market, premium gas is only about 6-7% more expensive -- what's the margin there? Across the border, in Maine, the margin seems to run about the same as here. That kind of difference is peanuts compared to where gas prices are headed this summer.

in aus, premium is about 6-10 cents more per litre, or 5-10 more per tank,

but factor in the cost of increased oil changes, better tyres and most likely shorter and more expensive service intervals it all add to more expensive car, but as they say you have to pay to play

also dont forget, it will be a hellova lot if u break something and they dont cover it under warrenty because of ur filter, tbe, mbc, etc

when i knocked my current RA a month after i got it, just for some basic part cost $5500 because it was a new car here and parts were not readily available ...

09 Ralliart Starting at 28,500?

Well i took my GTS by the dealership today and talked to the guy i bought my car from i told him i was considering trading my GTS and getting a ralliart since the talk was that it was going to be around 25k. He then went on to say that he highly highly doubts that its gonna be anywhere near 25k as they get closer to getting them they are getting more information in the car and he said that it simply dosent make sense to charge only 4k or in some cases 3k more than a top of the line GTS and give an all wheel drive + turbocharged car. he said it would most likely start at about 28.5 and go all the way up to where the evo starts. i posted this in the GTS section because there were a lot of talk about it being 25 and such and people were planning to do trade ins and such..

your thoughts?

Forget it then. I'm not going to trade my lancer in if it's that much. Might as well get an Evo. Or just mod my lancer.

true. now it would make more sense to spend an extra 5k slapping a turbo on our lancer. sure we'll never have all wheel drive but i dont doubt it can be faster than the ralliart

The dealer here, when I was test driving the lancer, said that the Ralliart will be around base 25-26k...maybe he was mixed up.
