Above it was suggested that the SST had a torque limit of 380 ft-lbs. According to Getrag, their DCT comes in two specs: 470 NM (347 ft-lbs) and 450 (332 ft-lbs). So if when the ECU is cracked and reflashed there is definitely room for some increase in power. Allowing for a 15% safety margin, even the lower-rated SST should be able to handle 280 ft-lbs of torque. That would be enough for me, anyway.

i dont think it would be that easy... the RA has a smaller turbo... i think that may be the only huge difference between the engines... either way... the RA is limited the the amount of tq it can have due to the sst

Point being, I don't think there is any way it would be released in April. Time frame just isn't adding up. Not to say that I would not be thrilled to be wrong.
Hah -- I had to show the sales staff at my dealer the photos on the website (they have a high speed connection there, like most dealers, I expect), though that was just a few days after Detroit (back in January), so it was sort of sensible that they hadn't heard about the 2009 Lancer Ralliart. When I was back in last week, the receptionist offered to show me a photo of the orange Ralliart, prompting the sales guy to point out that "this is the guy who showed me the website in the first place."

I think the thing you're thinking of is called an iPhone, though pretty much any laptop will do to show a dealer photos... Blackberries are Canadian, so I probably shouldn't be badmouthing them, being Canadian myself...

[laptops are better for beating people over the head than crackberries, but I recommend using a friend's laptop, if you decide to do that :-]

If the Getrag site is any indicator, they make two SST-type trannies: one rated for 332 ft-lbs (450 NM) and another rated for 346 ft-lbs. (470 NM). So, it seems the mechanics of the tranny will not be a limit on the RA's power. The electronics that control it (TCM/ECU) might be a limit, but there appear to be a lot of companies interested in cracking and reflashing them.

Besides having a single-scroll instead of the double scroll turbo in the Evo, it also uses milder cams. According to a Mitsu exec who was interviewed on camera at the New York show, those are the only differences.

Something else from the video - it pretty much sounds like we will be getting the 09 RA with just the TC-SST (he says something on the subject at the very end of the video)

I'm going to just have to accept the fact that the RA is going to be TC-SST

Did the battery also move back to the front compared to the X? Maybe because of the heavier steel suspension?

it's gonna come with the TC-SST only... FOR NOW! he didn't say no... he implied "not yet". big difference

the TC-SST would be GREAT for most people because it would be standard. the CVT on the GTS is already a 1k option. imagine how much of a bargain the RA would be if it really was ~25k with SST standard? what other car would stand a chance at that price?
