The Ultimate 2009 Ralliart Thread mega merge
I'm guessing significant due to the increase in HP by the turbo - and I guess pricing out insurance with a WRX isn't a proper comparison as it seems Mitsu has a bad insurance reputation?
I mean I know my Mirage is like a death car
I can't believe how much money insurance companies want for an Evo!

again, i will have to respectfully disagree with you here and say again that in europe for example, cars are customizable, option by option; what it means is that if you want specific combination of vehicle and all the area dealers dont have it, you just order the car and wait for it, (well, i would rather wait a month or 2 or 3 and get exactly what i want than compromise)
I will give you perfect example what these stupid budled packages have done in my case: i am thinking of getting a base X (no sss or aero package), being in the northeast, every car at every dealer i checked has either sss, aero, or both. I just want the base X gsr, nothing else, nothing more, the only thing i would pick as an option would be hids which are part of, you guessed it, a bundled package. So these packages simply dont work well. There are many people out there who feel the same way, just read some posts in the X section.
Lets forget about engine, transmission, color for now and look at "customization". You can divide "options" into ones that can be easily installed by dealer (short shifter, arm rest, floor mats, rear spoiler or exterior garnish pieces, etc) and ones that are better done in factory (hid, rims, seats, special stereo system, ipod interface, intercooler sprayer system, etc)
And now how the system works is that each stocks a few bare base models and few with different factory installed options. Now, you can create full selection by making defferent dealers in the area stock different colors, engine, tranny and factory installed option combinations. There, you covered all engine types, colors, tranny types, factory installed options, the rest is your dealer installed options.. The few times that the perfect car cannot be found, well, then you just have to order from factory and wait for it.
Again, we americans get shafted in many different ways

Released with the MR? Now that would be good news.
Yeah, as far as customization goes.. it's a lot simpler and cheaper for the manufacturers to ship out their products in pre-set packages. I, too, remember the days when you could customize your car down to the colour of your headliner (now all you can get is that white'ish/beige colour). You used to be able to choose fabric or leather seating, and then the colour on top of that. Even getting an obscure combination of manual roll-down windows but with power door locks wasn't uncommon.
After reading what's speculated to be the "base" model, I'm quite content with getting just that. FAST key, Bluetooth, Recaro seats (at least according to the Canadian releases) and I'll be quite happy. Would like HIDs and a sunroof, but not totally necessary. Rockford stereo? Like others have said.. if I really wanted a high-end system in my car, I'll choose a high-end system and put it in.

They rely on statistics. It might take them awhile to differentiate this Lancer RA from the previous model years, if they even differentiate from the regular Lancer. I doubt they'll make the comparison with the WRX.
ROCK ON MY CANADIAN FRIEND!
Actually, as I said, I agree about the need for a proper special-order system for North America -- I once decided against buying an Acura because I wanted cruise control and cloth seats, and cruise control only came with leather seats. The OEM cruise control couldn't be retrofit, and they wouldn't even sell me one with the leather seats swapped out for cloth ones (ridiculous, yes, but at the time I would have paid for it). Of course, not swapping out the seats was the dealership being obnoxious, but that's about what I'd expect from a Honda/Acura dealer up here in Canada.
NA cars seem alot cheaper to insure unless its a mustang or something.
Can they seriously consider a hatch and not make a hot hatch?
Any of the other things that make it feel like a "death car" are my own fault - plus sized rims so I feel every bump in the road, which makes everything rattle around me - my horn stopped working one day, and I realized my air bag was gone! (I figure it was stolen when I got it worked on at this shop when I was visitng a friend)
NON DEATH CAR RELATED THINGS:
The power locks don't work anymore (again aftermarket), the trunk lid doesn't line up anymore so I just don't use it because I can never get it to close again (no idea what caused that). Someone tried to steal my sidemarkers and only managed to get one, so I have a hole in my driver side fender.
I won't bore you anymore, but to sum it up IM READY TO BUY A NEW CAR!
Anyway an Evo they wanted 200+ dollars a month 1200+ for 6 months! which I just simply can't afford + a car payment.
I am 22 and have a somewhat clean record - I had an accident with a guide wire one time in Texas...in my parents' explorer
I hope that maybe the ralliart will keep some of its value in the resale market, so that when I turn 25/26 I can trade it toward an Evo, ya know what I'm sayin?
Good points, but different insurance companies and other insurers rely on different statistics, and my guess is that with premium cars, age matters a lot more than they'd like to admit (at least where they're still allowed to discriminate based on age and gender). Definitely pays to shop around if your insurer lumps the Ralliart in with the Evo -- makes more sense to lump it in with the GTS anyway, as the new premium model in the sub-Evolution line.
