I dont mean to take sides...

but if you find yourself arguing with Bryan (razorlab).. then normally you aren't considering all of the details.

He is a very ethical, intelligent, and contributing forum member.

Im well aware of Bryan. Im definitely not gonna argue with those who know what they are talking about and have the respect of the Evo/RA community

You can argue with me all you want... would be a bad place if we just had to take peoples words for gospel.

Since you said that, it must be true.

To answer the OP:

if your goal is to keep the Evo stock or modify the RA to Evo standards - then go Evo - everything is warrantied and designed as a package.

Your modified RA would have an invalid warranty.

If the stock RA satisfies you (because you need more of a DD than a track car) - then 'no', why pay extra for (evo) features you won't use?

Yes, i could afford either car as well - but the RA meets my needs.
'If' i could find an Evo and RA for the same price - i would still buy the RA. That's me.

I just bought the 2011 RA. I could afford either myself, too, but I needed a DD as you put it. For my needs (I don't think I've ever raced on a track), it was the best option. It has a smoother ride on those roads with not the best surface, but you can pass that jagoff (yes, some Pittsburghese in there) with barely an effort. The AWD is great for all weather ('specially for us guys who have to deal with snow and ice a lot and live on hills). And, not that it matters for a lot of people, but you do get better gas mileage.

The RA is the compromise car for people that need to drive everyday, but want that bit of fun as well. At least, that's how I felt about it.

Depends how you want to use it. If you live in Sunny SoCal and you got the money, I would go X all the way, but, if like me you don't live in the best of climates and don't plan on racing it, I love my RA.

Agree with most things, but ...
If you track regularely, sure the X would be a wiser choice, considering it's got more stuff from the factory, but if you just want to track a few times every year, the RA could easily be taken to a track with a few suspension modifications and you would still have a great DD.

And finally, if I had a Evo I would still drive like a nut on occasions.
I wouldn't buy a rally inspired car if I didn't want to push the car once in a while.
My car got quite alot of rock chips and even the plastic cover underneath dropped a few bolts on one occasion from after I've had fun in the snow.
These things can always be fixed or replaced, and atleast now I know how to drive my car and know how it handles from these experiences.

to say if you modify your car it has an invalid warranty is wrong.

we've actually only ever had TWO warranty issues denied.. and we take MANY cars in for warranty work for our clients.

there are consumer protection laws that protect you from a warranty being voided because of modifications.

not trying to be argumentative... just stating fact.

I agree completely. The issue is many people don't know enough about the legal system and are too afraid to fight it because they are worried it will cost them money. Not to mention everywhere you look you have people saying "If you mod it voids your warranty". Seems once people hear it enough they just believe it. I've had dealers try to void my warranty, but usually a little persuasion and they cave. No dealer wants bad press.

Well, it should be stated this way: "If you modify your car, you *may* void your warranty." There are issues of proximate cause. If I put Eibach springs on my car, and the TC-SST blows up due to a manufacturing defect, it will still be covered under warranty.

A key point that a lot of people fail to address, though, is that "abuse" can also void your warranty on a 100% stock vehicle.

quite a bold statement..

Ive had an evo 8 (TA car), evo IX, evo X,now the ralliart (not to mention GTR, a couple of STi's, Lotus Exige etc)....

They all have their place..

I LOVE the ralliart... practical with space... not as abrupt as any other EVO... I love the SST gearbox (from racing, and driving cars with paddle shift)...

will it make 400whp with some bolt ons... no.... with it make good power.. yes.. and serve its purpose

Take each platform for what it is!

Cheers

I thought only Mitsubishi dealers were allowed to perform warranty work??? How are you guys able to do this? If it's true, maybe I'll start taking my car to you guys from now on instead of the dealer since you're only about 45 minutes away from my house.

You do know the RA runs the same AWD system as your Evo 9 right? Going by that logic... your Evo 9 is quite close to the "terd" RA

^ Yeah thats kind of an ignorant thing to say. I ended up getting my RA because of all the great reviews. Coming from a higher HP/TQ rated Z convertible I debated hard on the EVO or RA. For the price I couldn't be happier. I wouldn't call the RA a "polished turd" With a few mods the RA makes some great power and I still saved money.
