Transmission service
Transmission service
So I just bought an 09 ralliart and I contacted the dealer that the car was originally serviced at and they didn't have any information about the car besides selling it. Since the car has 85k miles on it and I have no idea if the previous owner changed the transmission fluid I was planning on changing it here soon. But then I got on Mitsubishicar.com and put in my cars VIN and they claim that the sst clutch system was replaced at 75k miles. I'm assuming that it got a new filter and fluid at that time. Since I don't know how the car was driven since then, do you guys think it would still be a good idea to change the fluid and filter anyway?
Also, I was reading through the forums and people have been stating that the tranny fluid be changed every 30k miles but on Mitsu.com, it looks like its only recommended to check the fluid at 30k and change the fluid at 60k. I am looking online because I can't find the service manual in the car anywhere and I haven't gotten one at the dealer yet.

If I remember right when you change the tranny fluid depends on how you drive it. I drive mine fairly aggressively so I'm going to change it every 30k. I would say you'd be OK to wait on changing the fluid for a while. If you search around people who were in desperate need of the fluid being changed noticed a big difference in clutch engagement / slipping.
Yeah the car shift fine and there seems to be no signs of any slipping. I just got off the phone with the Mitsu dealer where the car was originally bought and serviced and they have no history records of any clutch change or even a SST fluid flush which scares the hell out of me if the fluid and filter have never been changed! Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and spend the money for the fluid and filter and do the flush right away. Crossing my fingers that I don't have any future problems with the SST if it was never serviced.
Just go ahead and do it. I know it'll hurt the wallet but peace of mind is a good thing to have. There honestly shouldn't be any problems with your trans. The SST is stronger than most people think. Just if you're modding/tuning the car remember to stay under 350hp unless you upgrade the clutch packs.
I was planning on doing it myself to save some money, I read that is a good idea too flush it with mineral oil. Do you have any experience with that or should I just do a drain and fill?

i personally dont have any experience with the mineral oil flush. but seeing at your mileage and with no history at all of it being changed i would recoomend the full flush and fill, peace of mind and to get rid of any left over build up. and most will reccommend the fluid and filter change btw 15-25k depding on way you drive. me personnaly i do it every 15k. also recommend gettin your timing chain looked at and ACD pump, but as long as you take care of the RA and all its gadgetry itll take care of you
