Depends on what your definition of "OK" is.

If "OK" to you is to install an aftermarket intake without regard to A/F or MAF scatter, then go for it.

I have a Cobb AccessPort, my GSR is bone stock, and I'm running their off the shelf Stage 1 tune. My car runs better than stock with more power, never a CEL.

Once I install my Perrin CBE and HKS drop-in panel air filter, I will download the Perrin tune I got when I bought my AccessPort which is matched to this set up.

MAF sensors are very sensitive, and because of this I personally would never consider an aftermarket intake (cold air or not) unless I was tuned for it, either by a protune or an off the shelf tune progamed for it. Even if your A/F was still within the safe zone, the MAF scatter alone one gets with any aftermarket intake would be enough for me to wait for a tune of some type.

I don't know about you, but I didn't pay all this money just to fu*k up my Evo.

I think that took care of it

Currently we're working on getting all the intake maps together, the hard pipe and test pipe is already supported in the STG II map, and there is no need for a MBC.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob: For every firmware update, do we need to re-download all the base maps from the Cobb website again to AP in order to datalog?

Not unless we say to do so. Generally the only time maps need to be updated would be from tuning changes or changes to the code running on the ECU itself. Otherwise the changes are usually feature improvements to the AP.

This changes will be a change to the ECU code, therefor requiring a map update and reflash. We will have a map updater on our website allowing the end user to update his or her custom maps without having to bug their tuner. At the same time we will be rev'ing our staged maps on our site.

Thanks,
Rob

I do have a response, but I've been waiting for a firm release date for the AT Race support for the world market. I'll PM you later today if that is ok?

Thanks

If I'm running HKS drop-in air filter and a HKS Hi Power catback exhaust, which Cobb or Perrin off the shelf stage mapping should I use? Cobb Stage 1 or 2, Perrin Stage 1 or 2? I do not have a test pipe or aftermarket downpipe and probably don't plan to put those in my car at all.

If it were me i would go with cobb stage 2.
I have had cobb working on my car for the last week. Still waiting to get it back. they did a custom tune and somehow, while the access port was communicating with my ecu, something weird happened and my ecu went into limp mode. So they sent my ecu to their engineers in Utah and they fixed it and sent it bak again. they were working on the custom map again and of course, my luck, the battery dies while its reflashing my ecu. Again it goes into limp mode. The guy from cobb plano flew (with it) up to Utah with the access port to have them fix it one more time. haha. I wasnt mad though because i left it with them while i went on vacation. Anyway the people at cobb are extremely nice people and in no way does their product mess up your car. With the stage 2 map that cobb supplies they did 2 runs both saying what my Zchip did (not on the car anymore) 273-302 KEEP IN MIND THIS IS ON A MR. ITS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NUMBERS THAN A GSR. ITS HARDER TO GET THE SAME AMOUNT OF POWER OUT OF THE MR WITH THE SST. I have a custom downpipe back 3 inch exhaust, cobb intake, and accessport. I get the car back tomorrow with the custom tune. I will let you guys know what gains i see with the custom tune by cobb.

sorry for the long post.
figured somebody might want to read this.

both stage 2 maps ask for a Turbo-back exhaust system, but that has been debated many times. I am in the exact same boat as you. I only plan to replace my cat back exhaust nothing else. To be honest I haven't seen a dyno of any other exhaust piece (downpipe) that added much power (maybe a bit smoother), and I have read by more than one vendor that the stock cat isn't that restrictive anyway.

I would call them and ask, but I think you are good to run a stage 2 map.

i'm kinda in the same spot as you...still trying to decide on exhaust options but i'm really itching for the AP

i haven't spoken to Cobb but Chris at Perrin had told me that a TBE is needed to run their stage2 or stage3 shelf maps. As a sidenote, while the Cobb stage2 map also requires the removal of the boost pill, Chris did say that it is not a requirement for their maps.

I'm kinda of a DIY kinda guy and I don't have the tools or skills to reach all the way up to the turbo to unbolt the down pipe and reinstall it. This is why I choose to avoid getting a downpipe. I wonder is it possible to just do a Testpiope/HFC swap along with the catback to use there Stage 2 maps.

I rec'd this code tonight after getting my car tuned. Any update on this issue? I reset the error code using the Accessport. I'll see if it returns tomorrow.
