I would have loved to have gotten a 1 year used convertible Cobra for 29k, but I didn't want 2 doors, I didn't want RWD in the winter, and I didn't want a straight-line car. Instead, I paid MORE for a new Evo that kicks *** at the drag strip, on the autocross course, and at the road circuit. I've done all 3 with huge success, and that's why I bought the Evo. That doesn't mean I'm incapable of realizing that the Cobra completely owns the Evo at the drag strip...
1. We are in the drag racing forum. I'm assuming some us DO buy lancer to win drag races. And those who do do it quite well.

2. Not EVERY Cobra > EVERY Evo. Quite the opposite in fact. The Evo responds very well to pwer mods and it doesn't take much to run with a stock Cobra, particularly when the track prep is bad.

I don't see why you feel the need to flame him or myself. We were just sharing a story from the strip and everyone gets all mad... because we win? What the hell is up with that!??

Seriously, beating a stock cobra with a lighltly modded Evo from a dig at a poorly prepped track is not too much of a stretch. I don't see why we need to worship the Cobra.

The sportback is my family/ lugging around parts car. I figured I'd put that in my profile since this is a lancer site. I also have a mildly modded 2nd gen Talon TSi AWD.

You think the Evo responds well to mods look at what a Cobra will do with basic upgrades such as pulley, exhaust, chip....

Uh, why flame? Why don't you go look at the title of this thread again. You two brought this on yourselves. Those of us with a clue know that they are NOT overrated. You are now telling me that a modded Evo can keep up with or beat a stock Cobra. Oh, wow, that's amazing. Do you realize that the Cobra costs the same as the Evo? So, we have to mod just to catch up with something that costs less, and if they do even the slightest mods, they can get into the 11s. I'm sorry, but you have some gigantic blinders on if you believe what you're saying. Yes, this is a Drag Racing forum...that doesn't mean we're a bunch of idiots who ONLY drag race. The Evo is not a drag car, and it cannot touch the 03/04 Cobra stock-for-stock or mod-for-mod. The drag strip is just a tool for understanding how well you drive, how much power your car is making, and how much recent mods have helped. Those who do it for actual competition purposes (e.g. AMS) have fully-built race cars that really aren't much faster than moderately-modded daily-driven Cobras.

What should it mean? You're saying Cobras are overrated, because a stock one ran a ****ty time. That's retarded...

But as for this, an evo does not compare to a cobra as far as drag racing is concerned. I love my evo, but it's no cobra on the dragstrip. No one is "worshiping" the cobra, it just seems unfair to talk crap about a cobra because 1 guy in an evo beat a cobra. A friend of mine went 13.5 in a Mach 1 on drag radials with exhaust and intake. That's basically a cobra minus the supercharger. So if that cobra ran a 13.5 either the guy couldn't drive, or it was an 01 cobra, when they were not supercharged. Take your pick.

It was an '03/'04 Cobra. Different rear bumper, black at the bottom, hood vents, different bumper than the '99/'01's and an unmistakeable blower whine.
