ATP turbos vs. Buschur BR440 and BR500 turbos

As far as looking at the reputation of the shop, it is apparent that there are irreconcilable differences between these reputable shops. I have heard of all these vendors and is not knew to me. Unfortunately, none are located in my area. I cant see and touch the parts. I would assume they are of qaulity since R&D was used before they spent thousands of dollars manufacturing these kits. Like I heard once before, "opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one." Basically, you are saying to pick a turbo from a hat and I'll be happy with it. If thats the case, why would I want to spend the extra money on a kit if I can get the same performace for one thats $1000 less. Then that would bring the next question of why would any one want to throw themselves out of the market and overcharge. I am sure there are differcences. It cant be exact but spool up is important to. I dont want 400HP if it takes 5k rpms to spool the thing up either. What turbo do you recommend and why?

That is at 20 psi - pump gas - stock ecu

Fast spooling, good pump gas numbers, stock head, block etc. The BR440 kit made 401 on pump gas with near stock spool up, the kit costs $2300. The manifold is not going to break. The stock turbo on pump gas, on our dyno, only made 360 whp really cranking on it. So this turbo is good for an easy 40 whp over stock. With race gas this turbo made 429 hp, the stock turbo on our dyno only made 390 whp, so a 39 whp gain, with a ported head on the car the turbo made 443 whp.
The BR 500/580 were never tested on pump gas. We had no desire to mess with changing fuel and draining both sides of the tanks. The turbos were meant to make high hp at higher boost levels. We didnt' build these for someone that wanted to have a super fast spooling low boost pump gas car. With that said, Al has made 378 whp on the BR 500 kit with straight 94 octane in the car. This was with a bone stock head and shortblock.
I am tired of the argueing too, and I am usually at the center of it. I feel I have to continue to defend myself. I have been doing this longer than any other vendor on here and yet I still fight to defend myself. I hope my attitude stays as it has been the last 3 days. I am at the point of saying F*** IT!
Any of you that want to spend more money on a kit or other parts, please go right ahead.
For those of you that want the most value for you money, give us a call. You won't be disapointed. Just make sure you follow the Stages for the upgrades, that is what they are there for.
The way I look at it, if your Stage 4 with the EMS can make an EVO with a bone stock turbo, engine and head run 11.65 at 117.88 mph with no weight reduction and no sacrifice in spool up why in the hell would most people even want to touch the turbo?!
Myself nor my employees push the turbo kits. Do the staged upgrades first, the car will absolutely fly and the spool up is killer. We don't recommend touching that stock turbo until you have done everything else to get the power that you can. Then if you still need more change the turbo and the results will be great, without the supporting mods you are basically throwing money away.
Anyone that tries to sell kits to guys without the other mods that are needed to make the car run good are just taking your money.

Thanks Al,
I assume this is with the basic bolton mods with the buscher turbo kit. Did this dyno run include cams to? If so were they 264 or 272s or a combination? I think you mentioned to me to go with 264's. Is the car less streetable with 272's? What are the pros/cons. Thanks

Thanks David,
1 question. What is the max boost we can safely run with ARPs and what is it with none on 93 octane. Keeping in mind I have a heavy foot. Thanks

The few negative posters are mostly asscoaicates of a few vendors and they ave adopted this negative attack SOP for a long time now.
I say do not let the few haters who spend all thier day posting neative remarks from behind a keyboard all day get you down
Letting those few dysunctional haters to get you down is lke throwing the baby out with the bath water!
Cheer up - you are the true pioneer of 4G63 performance and all over the country where ever I go to tune evos I see the Buschur parts on all the Evo owners in the know and they all are totally satisfed with the stuff they have from Buschur !
As for your comments about follwoing the Staged upgrade path - I agree with you 100% - on pump gas the stock turbo is very - very good and when taken to the limit - as in Robi's Stage 4 ar with head - it was amazing how fast a ev can be on the stock turbo and how quick and hard it can spool

What does the ported head with the stock turbo put out on pump gas (on your dyno)? Is it able to surpass the 360hp or not or does the stock turbo simply run out of breath?
Hey Dave, I just want to say one thing. I usually make no effort to stay with any vendor because I usually simply go to the vendor with the best prices and decent rep. I really like your shop's ideas/products because they seem to follow the exact way I think when it comes to making a car overall just better without breaking the bank and just replacing factory parts without maybe rethinking their design.
I must really say that most of all your products surpass everything else on the market as far as performance, price and originality. It is truly a great thing to have you as an option when I buy (which I have been finding myself buying more and more from you guys).
So thanks!
BTW, this post is not meant to try and put myself on one person’s side but to simply recognize a person’s achievement because they help guys like me get where we want to be.

Ya know, I have had nothing but respect for Mr. Buschur, b/c ive seen what he's done with the old DSMs, not to mention Robi's car. But Al, as soon as Mr. Buschur "approved" of your flash, i've seen nothing but butt-kissing and brown-nosing from you, and its amusing, but a bit pathetic at the same time. Half of the time, people question YOUR product, and not his, and I've seen you drag his name into it. Im sure Mr. Buschur appreciates the business and all, but in my eyes, his association with you is tainting his name.
Just my input.
I for one can say that both the Buschur parts and the flash work well. I am totally happy with my Buschur Stage 4 and Flash. I have been researching the different turbo options and will go with one of the Buschur turbos, just not sure which one yet, probably the 440 as I track my car and want the benefit of quick spool. I also believe that I can run the 440 with a flash and will not need to purchase an EMS (David correct me if I am wrong) and that will save me about $2500.
David has been a pleasure to work with. He has been very helpful and always willing to answer questions. He worked with me to determine the best setup for what I wanted to do with the car and even talked me out of spending more money on stuff I did not need. He really does put the customer first and stands by his products.
Keep up the good work David. There are a bunch of us out there that really appreciate it.

The guys who have driven a BR Stage 4 (myself included) know how great a machine it is and what a great value the parts are
On another note - on my car - I have basically spared NO expense on it. I have what I consider to be the best parts money can buy. I chose and run the Buschur exhuast (gained 30 whp with it) and the Buschur mini battery kit which I consider to be a great example of a perfect design and as a guy who spends hours parked on the side of roads with the car running a power inverter to power my lap top - often at night with the lights on - that little battery is just simply amazing

On a more serious note - I do not see anyone questioning my product expect partisan customers of other tuning houses
If you do a screen name search under my old personal account here on evo m - Alfriedesq - you will find that I became a loyal supporter of Buschur Racing afer I attended the 11th annual DSM shootout lasy July
The reason why I started to admire Buschur Racing was becuase when I attened that race I had a really amazing time - one of the best times I ever had in fact. The race was perfectly organized and run like clockwork. The track is one of the best tracks I have ever been to. The positive energy and comradery at the event was totally amazing. Its a really great time and I recomend that any DSM owner who can come on out to Norwalk Ohio on August 15 so you can see how great an event it is.
While I was there - I got beat in the final by a car with Buschur Stage 2 which beat me with about 1/20th the cost of mods. The guy driving the car was at his first drag racing event. I think that moment - a novice drag racer with under $1500 in mods beating me with almost $20,000 invested in parts on my evo - sums up the entire Buschur Experience. The guy who won the race - also beat Martin from AMS and a pro driver from anoter major DSM team in the process. Its simply great to see stuff like that hapening - but its all part of the Buschur experience.
I saw the positive energy and happy vibe amung the Buschur customers and team members and decided for myself that I would like to be a part of a group of guys like that.
Its no accident that one of the coolest Evo guys I ever had the pleasure to meet - Robi is also a guy who likes Buschur parts.
The way his car ran with the stage 4 reflash and head was simply something I could not explain with words - the car was that fast and that good.
Also, I support Buschur Racing and Buschur products becuase I feel they are the best and also becuase I think they work well on my customer's cars
So far I have tuned over 700 evo 8's and a whole load of them had Buschur parts of one form or another on them and I have not heard of ONE disatisfied customer
I talk highly of the Buschur parts - and you will find them on my car as I mentioned in my previous post. They are priced fairly and work the best - period.
Finally - I note that while you can find plenty of used JDM and other various types of parts and exhuasts etc for sale in the private classifieds section - you really can not find any used Buschur parts becuase it seems that no one needs to change them for other parts after they get them the customer is happy and satisfied
