For you guys using the E85 testers...

It can take quite awhile for the mixture to settle (over an hour) and get an accurate reading. I've got a feeling that some of us think we have higher E contents than we really do..

Mine shows up in about 5-10 min and it will be the same an hour later??

If it takes longer than 5-10 minutes switch to distilled water at near the same temp as the fuel to be tested and most important- turn the sample over a couple of times and only lightly shake it- DO NOT SHAKE HARD- especially on 100 ml samples- you can emulsify it so much it can take a day to become accurate and then you can lose gasoline due to evap and still be off.

+1. learned that after the first few trys. if its shaken hard, then it will take A WHILE. also noticed if its shaken to hard it builds a layer of foam between the alcohol and water. a few light shakes gets it just right.

I bought mine on eBay for @ $8. You can try marine stores. I think they use ethanol for boats.
