Cable wiring question

Hi. Maybe I missed this procedure, but how do you wire the blue and black wires from the homemade cable that you create, i.e., do you splice into the blue wire on the AEM or do you cut the AEM blue wire and connect to one side of it while closing off the other? Similar question for the black wire. Do you splice into the AEM ground wire or can you take your homemade black cable wire and connect it directly to a ground under the dash, without have to connect to any AEM wires?
Thanks!

Connect Pin 2 of your com port to the blue wire coming from the Uego, connect pin 5 of your com port to the black wire on the Uego, which should also be connected to a comon ground. I wouldnt suggest trying to use a common ground for your serial cable, although it might work fine you might get interferance from something else in the car. Doing it the way your supposed to you shouldnt have problems.

Is your blue wire on the AEM connected to something already? I dont really understand what your asking about splicing or cutting and closing off?

Hi, I was referring to using this kind of connector to tap into the AEM UEGO blue wire:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3004023

This keeps the continuity of the AEM blue wire intact, as opposed to cutting in two and connecting my serial cable to only one end of the cut wire. I hope I'm making sense..

Thanks.

You can use vampire taps like that if you'd like. They may loosen over time but should work. Soldering/shrink wrapping is the method I prefer.

Is the serial output (blue wire) currently connected to something? What's it connected to? Unless your already using the serial output for something else (EMS/ECU), then you shouldnt have to tap into it, just connect your wire to it.

Keep in mind the blue wire that you should connect to is from the gauge harness, not he o2 sensor harness.

ok so i just connected my AEM WB

gauge is working fine with good readings.

however, i am not getting anything from Evoscan. i had the same problem with my LC-1 serial cable (i heard these were problematic though so i changed it).

now i select AEM in the drop down, its connected on Com port 1 (as per windows device manager) and i select that as well. then select WB external thing in Evoscan.

and NOTHING!!!

i bought a serial cable that has both ends the same so i cut off one end and spliced the wires in.

however, i used the orange wire off my serial cable to the blue wire on the gauge...i did this through using a multimeter, so i dont understand y this is happening?

any ideas?

Not all serial cables are the same. Make sure you have the right pins, dont ever look for specific colored wires.

I would try HT, i have had no issues with AEM on evoscan on 3+ cars.

If you cant hyperterm my guess would be you have the wrong pin for the blue wire. I have used a multimeter on my friends car and still grabbed the wrong wire to solder. Easy fix just make sure you double check.

Are you going thru a serial to usb adaptor, I had problems with mine the other day because I don't think the adapter was compatible. It would work perfect in hyperterminal but I got nothing thru evoscan. Borrowed a friends laptop that had a serial port and just eliminated the adapter...worked like a charm

A little off topic, but how far down the Dpipe do you mount the sensor?

I mounted mine right before the dp bolts to the cat...you should have a grommet right above it that leads into the cabin right behind the radio console.

One thing to note...When assigning COM port for the serial to USB converter it needs to be 1-3 for evoscan to recognize and log. Mine was previously set to COM port 5 and would not read. I moved some stuff around by going to... start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/ports (COM&LPT)... this will allow you to view which devices are set up on a certain COM port. If you click on a particular device and then go port settings then click the advanced tab you can choose which COM port for the device to communicate on. I set my Tactrix cable to COM port 1 and my Serial to USB converter to COM port 3. After you reassign the COM ports restart the computer. Also make sure to connect your tactrix cable and serial to USB cables to the vehicle/wideband output and to your computer before powering up the car each time, and make sure to turn the ignition off before you disconnect the USB cables as sometimes this can cause problems. When you open up EVOscan make sure you change the wideband COM port setting to the correct port that you just reassigned.
