Yes you can. But if you don't even know that flashing back will take you back to your previous state I do not recommend changing your ROM. Read and play around a little bit more with ECU Flash before starting to flash the actual ECU.

No, I knew that, I was just questioning if I would need to make changes to the XML also or if it would just be as simple as flashing.

Yep.

xml is just a "dictionary" for your ROM, it tells ECU flash where to find things.

so you can either flash back to your previous rom or simply undo the changes you made in your current rom and flash that...

Ok.. Flashed in the lean spool code and did some logging.. My first impressions were holy crap this is rich, but keeping in mind the ECU is no longer fiddling with my fueling like it was before. I leaned my AFRs out by a few percent and got them from 3800-7500 dead even on 11.3:1. I had a rich spot from 2500-3800 which I will work on tomorrow. Anyhow this mod is awesome! I can now row through the gears and every gear stays right at 11.3 AFR. Here is a DLL from when my tune was finished to my log from tonight after I leaned the car out.. Pretty impressive but I still have the rich spot and .2 AFR through the rest of the powerband.

Jon91Tsi,

How was the AFR of your car before the lean spool mod when rowing through gears? How much richer was it on the higher gears? Do you have a plot of the AFR when rowing through gears before and after the mod?

The car was tuned in 3rd with no fine tuning with other gears.. It always seemed to be dependant on the weather but 3rd was always anywhere from 11.5-10.9. If the weather was cool, like when the car was tuned it was 11.5-11.3 but if it got hot outside my AFR's would drop. Before the mod i would be 11.3-5 3rd 10.7-9 4th 10.4-8 5th and 10.2-5 6th. Now I stay pretty constant 11.3 except for my rich spot on spoolup which I will take care of tonight. I can flash back and log it and after I get the car sorted out tonight I can do another.

I also have my values sandwiched and I didn't notice the latency drop like others had mentioned.

Wow you were seeing about 1 full AFR swing from 3rd to 6th. I am no expert but that seems like a lot of variability. How does the car feel now when rowing through gears? Did you notice a slower spool up of the turbo once you disable lean spool? Specially from a 2000 rpm pull?. I think mine is spooling a little bit slower but I have to take a look at the logs to be sure. I think the IPW halving was caused by an error in the way lean spool was implemented on that specific car.

The car feels incredible now that I have the AFRs under control, even with the spoolup being rich it still feels much much faster than before. I wanted to run it through DLL to compare and it shows the difference. I had 23.5-24 psi by 3105 rpms from a 2500 rpm start. I think I may be able to go more agressive on the timing now that the AFRs are staying the same through the gears. The car pulls so much harder now while going through the gears because it isnt going richer and richer.

what Afr were you running before lean spool disable? What are your boost levels and is it still 11.3 currently?

Sounds about normal with what I have seen with lean spool on.
