nj, your making this way too complicated for what it's worth. Just leave the LS active - it gets the psi built faster.

Down the road when you and your new IX have become more acquanted, and you have done enough bolting-on, then perhaps disable it to gain more control over your fueling - I just set mine both to 2500 using the original instructions.

It is not worth going bald over making your car slower by richening spool

^^ actually I have been wondering about this...has anyone just tried leaving the enable at 2500 but then disabling it around 4000? Then wouldn't you have the advantage of the lean spool but then be able to control the afrs better in the mid-higher rpm range?

You could do it that way Codgi, but to me the whole reason to do this is to have complete control over AFR at all times. Letting the lean spool do its thing at peak torque while maybe the best for spool (if you dont know what to do after its been disabled) isnt always best at peak torque especially with high boost.

Most people find that its easier to control AFR with lean spool turned off like this. And actually, I'd be very interested if you could log some WOT runs with the lean spool start/stop rpm set to 2500. I'd like to see how the AFR compares to your run that you posted at the start of this thread.
I have done something similar on my Evo 8 before I traded it in. I ran it when it was tuned with a TBE and approx 20.xx psi with the lean spool activated and then I deactivated the lean spool. Here are the results:

With lean spool on:

With lean spool OFF:

The AFR becomes about 1 point richer in the low-mid rpms with lean spool disabled.

Fair enough....I may use that as one of "trial" maps on the dyno next week...

I was thinking that there would be a richening even at higher rpms because of the IDC jump that I would always see when crossing over the disable rpm.

If you are using 91 octane in CA, then you will knock 5-6 counts on a stock Evo 9. Best thing to do is to get it tuned to run on this bad gas. Basically, you will have to back off the timing in the 5-7k range by about 1-2 degrees. That should take care of the knock.
