Keep in mind.

Timing IS your power and fuel is you thermal management.

If you take your car to knock lets say at 9deg you might have stopped making power at 5. So if you back it up 2 deg is just very small gap in that window. It might knock again or it won’t. You can only see that on a dyno. I wish I could explain it better. Street tuning is allot of guess, some are very effective and others will fight this for a while. Trial and error and allot of seat time.

Who do we have to pay to come up with the live tuning program? I've heard that there is something in the works for the IX's but if they come up with the VIII version I will volunteer for the R&D

I completely understand what you're saying ! but then really there is not hard in have 7 extra "useless" degrees of advance if the car doesn't know is there?

80-130 on a stock turbo is not peak boost. 100 is just about when you are starting to get into boost. If you read above, peak boost tends to come somewhere in the 200-260 range depending on the mods on the car. Load is not the exactly the same across cars since some modifications mess with the calculations the ecu uses to calculate load.

Load also does not equate 1:1 to boost. Most of the guys here that are serious log boost with the JDM map sensor or similiar devices so they can accurately see what load with their particular setup corresponds to what boost.

okay so basically if I want to tune my a/f properly then I need the JDM sensor,
then I can see when I am hitting peak boost and tune my desired A/F at the cell and hold it to redline.. right?

with the zeitronix you can log boost, afr and egt with just 1 unit and if you get the zr2 gauge you can look at boost and afr in the same gauge it has a peak and hold feature so you can dail in the boost better with out the laptop

To tune A/f properly you need a wideband. AEM, Zeitronix, Innovate all work with EvoScan. The nice thing about the last two is that with some setups you can also log boost you so you kill 2 birds with one stone.

But yeah you need to get boost how you like it first and then adjust the A/f based on that. Trying to adjust both at the same time won't do much .

I was basically asking in regard to the need for the JDM sensor, if I was not going to change my stock boost. (my case for now) - and the answer from what ive gathered is no.
