There's not really one particular area, it's just that when you look at the map you see a lot of waviness because your variances from one cell to the next are not consistent. I'm not saying it should like an even sloping plane, just a bit smoother throughout each area overall.

Sort of like this, although smoothing is easier to do with Tephra Big Maps

Just thought it may be interesting for someone using some really crappy low-octane gas.

Evo8 2.3l stroker motor, Stock Evo9 turbo from Owen Developments, fine turbo back 3" exhaust, ETS piping and IC kit, Kelford264 cams, stock injectors, open cone filter intake (high intake temperatures).

This particular car has no access to regular or premium pump gas, just using somewhat close to US ~87-89 octane. No WMI no additives etc... Running 19-20 psi very close to knock threshold. No point of running higher boost, nor it can take any more ignition advance. But it drives fine and even participate in local auto-x events.

Thanks for sharing! Looks just like a California 91 octane map with maybe a little more timing on top...

Hey guys evo 9 switching to a 2.4 l engine. How should the timing map change in relation to increased displacement ? I assume I might need additional advance to ignite the increased volume ( and density 9.0 compression ) but I just don't want to start out too advanced .

Playing around with a map for my evo 8 (Fp red bb MHI, 93 pump, GSC S2, stock block) Cars not ready to start yet but when I start it up this will be my timing map unless I got something wrong?

What do you guys think? Planning on running around 25psi should hit about 290-300 load at peak boost.

I would start with your old map, maybe even less agressive. I would not assume something like that to start on a more agressive timing, only because of combustion theory.

Do it like always, slowly increment it until it knocks then back it off. You will get there quickly as I know you played a lot with your tuning

Not very agressive to me for 93, and some 2* jumps could be smoothed, but not a bad map IMO

Not very agressive to me for 93, and some 2* jumps could be smoothed, but not a bad map IMO
After reading this whole thread thought it would be okay for 2* jumps but I'll smooth it out more. I wanted to start low and gradually add more timing as I really see where the exact load is and how the car likes it. New setup completely so dont want to kill it on the first pull!

Paying for an hour on a dynojet is money well spent IMO. You can see exactly what timing the car likes. Alot of times it won't make more power with more timing after a point, you are just reducing the knock threshold. Alot of people don't understand that.
Your map is a good start. Keep the timing low below 5500, then ramp in into the teens based on boost.
I've never been a fan of high boost on pump gas. I always ran my car soft on pump and hard on E85 and it never let me down.

Yes I plan on putting the car on a dyno when I actually tune it. This way I can check each load and see how the car runs with different loads.

New to this but after reading A LOT it's pretty simple to do.

My first go at mapping my car learnt alot in last few weeks. I have a evo 5 cat back exhaust walbro 255 hardwired and stock airbox running around 19-20psi on turbosmart mbc. Fueling is starting to look good and auto smoothing worked a treat but im struggling with timing . I can get rid of random knock but i think my timing around 220 load in midrange is too mild but increasing area by 1 degree causes knocks of 2-3.
Btw in uk on shell vpower supposed 98-100 octane

More logging shows knock 1 count at 4800 around 220 load in 3rd gear, in 4th im getting counts of 2s and 1s around 4500-5500

any reason why my load cells start at 0 and I see a lot of maps on this thread starting at 10?

Just click on the load cell and hit = and you can change it. I'm not aware of any advantage to doing it one way or the other. I think some people start at 10 to give more resolution up top where they really need it.
