If I scale my injectors up an incriment, will that throw all my other fuel settings off? (not like it matters because I haven't tuned it yet)

All this discussion of AFR. Why nothing about ign adv or perhaps even MIVEC?

I guess with ign adv, if you run as much as you can then you will be making the most power - so you will need less throttle to get where you are going...

I do recall at least one other thread where someone (smartbomb) mentioned that he was able to improve fuel economy by increasing ign adv. Another poster in this thread also mentioned that he was able to increase ign adv as the afr was leaned out past 14.7.

i advanced my ignition 3* in cruise from 2000 to 3500 and have much more power then when i had only adjusted the afr, EGT's increased ever so slightly when i went over 3* so i left it there

I'm trying out +2 deg from 1500 rpm to 6000 rpm and from 0 to 120 load. Loading up the ROM tonight. Will try it tomorrow.

mfred,

Have you done the other fuel economy enhancement mods or will you be trying this timing advance deal all by its lonesome?

First trying increased advance by itself. I'll be adding leaner mixture to the tune after I get a feel for the increased advance.

I got a few logs this morning, and so far not a single knock count with the greater advance in cruise conditions, even when EGR would kick in and raise the advance to 40 deg. The car did seem to feel more responsive as well which is the aim. Remember that I'm running E85 now. YMMV on pump gas. I'll probably try adding another degree for the drive home. I can post maps if anyone is interested.

Yeah, I highly doubt 2* adv at cruise will cause knock on 105 octane E85,lol. If you're running colder plugs, you'll robably get BETTEr results with more advance at cruise.

Why colder plugs? I would assume that E85 reduces heat in the combustion chamber which would negate the need for colder plugs.

Not saying they are necessary, just saying someone might be using them. Especially with the insane boost levels some guys might be pushing these days.

Because you would usually run higher boost with E85, which would increase the pressure and temps in the chamber. E85 helps evacuate that heat just like colder plugs.
