Not sure there is much anyone can recommend. A lot of factors go into determining the most appropriate timing. However, if you're seeing as many as 8-9 counts and its not phantom knock, then its time to take out a degree or two of timing in that rpm and load range.
i think you should hold off on anymore changes until you get afr's.
one tip i learned...especially if you were tuned by a shop, would be to check how close the high and low octane maps are.

mrfred, I am aware ever car is different. All 3 logs showed knock in the same load and rpm range. I guess my other question would be, is 12* - 14* up top too much for an afr of 11.7 at redline on a conservative road course tune? (pulls were 3rd gear)

For the road course I would richen it to low 11's at redline. For my street tune I keep it around 11.6-5 throughout the rev range since EGT doesn't really come into play for a couple short pulls, but for a 20 minute track session is surely does.

This is one of the reasons why I am learning to tune myself. The shop that tuned it said it was a conservative road course tune, which as I pushed the car harder it seemed to feel weird. Sad though, as the shop is very active in track days.

I'm running a bbk full and 264/272 cams on an 8, and was unable to run anymore than 11-12 degrees up top on a road race setup at about 20-21psi, and have it be consistent. If I ventured over 11.4ish afr up top it would start to knock towards the end of my session (30 min runs) as well.
I can run 13-14 on the street fine at 24 psi. Sad part is that I found out the hardway that 14 was too much...gotta do a headgasket now

Can you guys give me an opinion on this timing map I just finished adjusting prior to loading it to the car. Background story for the new map:
I had gone to a dyno day last month and logged the car during the pulls. I had done a few logs here and there, but with the warranty about up (thank you c****x) I felt it was time to actually start learning and analyze the data from the logs. Plus.... I had just installed a MAF adapter w/ a Perrin filter and wanted to see what affects it had on the car since they say it can be run w/o altering the tune (which I now know isn't entirely accurate and I have since went back to the stock air box until I can get a logable wideband, prosport atm).
During the pulls the car was knocking above 7k. Not that I go over 7k much, if at all, during my trips to the track. The first pull had 4 counts from 7300 - 7500. The second pull had 8-9 counts from 6900 - 7500. Pull 3 had 6-7 counts from 7000 - 7500. With the filter the boost also increased from 5000 on, spiked 23psi then creeped to 24psi and tapered to rev limit. So I knew I had to richen up the fuel map up top.
What I did not realize is the amount of timing up top. In the previous map it was running 12*-14* of timing, which IMO is a little agressive for a "safe road course tune."

Whats with the timing spike at 60 load in the low rpm range
Wizzo - I have not touched that part of the map yet, that is still leftovers from the "pro" tune/stock map. I am working slowly at getting all the knock out and so far on all of my logs, cruise, idle, pulls, those cells haven't been hit so I haven't messed with them yet.

Well now I have an actual contribution to this thread. Worked on it all last week, finally got my afr's in check. One issue with them was a big lean spike when transitioning from 2500 to 3k. Now I am at 11.7 peak torque an tapering to 10.9 up top, wideband is finally not jumping all over the place. Changed the timing up a good deal, and smoothed the entire map. Car runs soo much happier now. Biggest issue with the original tune was just not smooth, large transitions and the map was choppy. I also took the time to rescale my load since 2byte was hitting in the 270's.
