cams will make the compression lower yes. usually around 145-150 though. remove the valve cover and there will be markings on the cams. i can make stock cams lope though, so thats not a valid way to tell anymore.

to be quick; its just pressurizing each cylinder to 100psi and then measuring how much it leaks from that set pressure.. then you take the percentage from how much it leaks.. say it goes to 90psi from 100psi.. you have 10psi leakage which is 10% from 100.

no. you're pressurizing each cylinder individually.. it has nothing to do with the valve cover. this is testing how well the rings seal and the valve seals seal etc..

you do need to take the valve cover off to check what cams are in the vehicle tho. you can undo the oil cap and shine a bright LED light in there tho and see if the top part of the headstuds say "ARP" on them though, then you will know that atleast before removing the valve cover.

Here is my fully tuned timing map for my EVO9. My car is very basic: FMIC, TBE, and GM3PORT boost control. I'm still running stock intake with stock filter and stock LICP.

I have a question.... I'm about to add a BBK to the car. After adding injectors and setting boost to a moddest 26psi how will my timing map need to change?

Hey all. This is a pic of the map ive been working on for my car for a while now. It started off as a tune that was done last summer after i had installed larger injectors. Ive been working on smoothing out the map as there were a lot of cells that jumped 5* or more to the next cell. This is my first attempt at playing with maps and im making small changes and logging a LOT. Im getting a count of 1 or 2 knock every once in a while but thats about it. I know the car is running a bit rich and ill be putting in a new set of plugs tomm just in case as these are only about 800-1000miles old.

The car is a 2003, 880cc's, walbro pump, grimspeed ebc, buschur d/p & exhaust, no cat, and muse upper & lower I/C piping, running a 98630706 rom and pushing about 22-23psi max

Kinda choppy map there. Might wanna smooth it out between 120-140 for smoother spool up.

Aren't you hitting those low rpm/high load cells in higher gears, where the timing is past TDC?

Spool up does need some smoothing, but the rest of the map is "choppy" because thats how it logs, and thats where I tune from. I could make it pretty but that doesn't mean power or safe. This map works great as a base map.

New map is on it's way, I went tuning last night

Are you hitting 15*? I have hks cams and run about 14 15 on 93.. I suspect you could add more up top as well as i. however I don't want to push the stock intercooler too hard. I think I'm leaving atleast a degree or two off my top end. Are you getting any knock up top?

Worked on my maps a lot today, nothing has been tested on the car yet tho.

main changes were smoothed spool (increased in most areas), and added 2 degrees in my 70-80mpg cruise range (40-80 load 3-6k). Done in single steps so i can test each piece.

then i stuck it all into tephra V7.

1. does it look like im pushing it too hard in spool up?
2. how does it look overall? (car is a 9, TBE, stock turbo, stock motor, perrin intake, ETS 3.5 and LICP, 93oct, 24psi)

map picture is cropped, due to not fitting on screen to take screen shot (parallels on a mac)

my timing ramps down quicker than yours during spool but I'm on 91 octane, so that may have something to do with it. I've also had trouble getting rid of phantom knock in that area, so I'm keeping timing fairly low to stay on the safe side. If your car takes it and doesn't knock, all the better for you!

Another update from my end.

evo ix
hks 272 93 oct, buschur dp, ported ebay o2 housing, pte 100cc injectors touches 300 load tapering to 210-220ish by redline on 93 oct. I seem to have to run a very little amount of timing at peak load, is this normal for a mivec IX? i usually hit -2 @ 25-26 psi. Is the stock intercooler not up to par here?
