Question Engine Help!!!

Hey guys this has been happening lately when I wash my car when I go to start it the car starts and then ideals then just shuts off and wont start until the little amount of water that got inside the engine burns off...this never happened before and I only have 11k on the car so I found a solution where I put a cloth where do hood vent is and when I wash it and it fixes it. Stock hood no modifications. But today it rained and I didnt plan on it and same thing happens what is an easy fix. I wd-40ed the engine where wires lead to and hope it will seal the connections. I wd40ed the spark plug areas where the connectors go to as well. Should I buy a new filter it is about 10k old and it gets wet a little but it did before as well and I never had the problem. Do u think it needs oiling? Should I use wd40 for that as well? Thanxs guys anyone else having the same problem?

Start with your mods.
Is the spark plug cover in place?
Look at what areas can get wet when it rains, off the top my head it is spark plug wires and coils, cam sensor, MAF?

wd40 is probablly not the best thing to be spraying all over the engine bay. Pick up some dielectric grease from any parts store and put it inside the boot of your spark plug wires.

this is to say that the plugs are your problem of course.

ok so I will never wd40 again...lol...sorry I was told to do that from someone that supposidly knows what they are doing. They said it would displace the water. Then he is telling me to get silicon spray to coat the spark plug areas. Should I change my intake or what is the best thing to do with the spark plugs such as the dielectric grease thing? I dont think it could be the cam sensor. It is either the intake or the spark plugs isnt this weird. I only have 11k on the car and has this happened to anyone else? My spark plug cover is tight for sure. and the intake looks like it gets some moisture should I re-oil it?

I think you have a bigger problem then an air filter getting a little wet. Everyone's does and nobody has this problem. IF the spark plug cover is in place then it is keeping enough water out that you can almost eliminate it. Some sensor or electrical connection has a poor seal and gets wet and confuses the ECM. Most likely cam sensor or MAF sensor.

i also think it is other than your intake or spark plug cover(as long as it is on), i would say to make sure the screws on your cam angle sensor are good and tight and that it is sealed up good. the 1g dsm's have the problem when it gets real wet or you wash the engine the cam angle sensor gets some water in it and messes it up. so what i would do on my 1g is just cover it up.

bump guys anyone??...thanxs. No one else is having this problem...I have never washed my engine with anything so I havnt tampered with it, such as wires. It only happens when it is wet...I am gonna buy dielectric grease today do u guys recomend putting it on the cam sensor the maf and the sparkplug wires and coils? I know where the maf is and the spark plugs wires is the cam sensor located in the front of our engines where it leads to where the spark plugs would be??
Thanxs again
