I just finished installing mine. It is weird to spend so much time installing something and then see nothing different when you are all done. Haven't driven it yet. Just started it up and verified that there are no leaks or issues.

Now I'm just wondering whether there is any break-in procedure (other than priming it with oil by cranking the car before starting the engine). I guess I'll drive it easy for a little while on lower boost. Does anyone know what you need to do in the way of break-in? FP? Tym?

I got it installed, drove it right over to MZM's dyno. Quick tuning session for safety's sake and drove it like I stole it! I don't believe there is any break in period for a turbo but you may want to ask the professionals.......

With only one hour of tuning, a small boost leak that I think I have subsequently found and a whopping 100 degrees ambient temperature, here's what MZM was able to come up with:

There was only a net gain of 26.5 HP and 21.4 lbs TQ, but the boost was spiking at 23 and tapering down to 19.5. After getting the car home, cooling it off and doing some searching, I found the intercooler outlet junction to be a little loose. Tried to tighten it and the clamp stripped. Luckily I had an extra one laying around and replaced it. Now the car doesn't taper below 20.5 - 21 lbs.

If feels great! I went for a drive this morning on some new twisties that I found going out towards Medina Lake and the temperature outside was about 76 degrees. The car feels like a monster and I know that there's some more in there.

Hopefully Mark from TT will be able to massage the rest of it out of there as well as adding the alcohol injection power that's just waiting to be tuned for.

I wanted to give you an apples to apples comparision. Unfortunately, the boost leak does not make this absolutely accurate. At the very least you can see that spool is VERY close to stock but feels faster by the seat of your pants.

Thanks to everyone involved so far from installation to tuning. I have high hopes for this coming Saturday with Mark. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Well, I'm glad this turbo is working pretty good so far. It looks very promising and I'll probably go this route in the future. By any chance did you ever make any runs at the dragstrip before you put the Rabbit on? It would be nice to see how well the car performs before and after the turbo install.

Just to say hello to everyone first of all!!
I'm based in the UK and we are fitting one of the WR turbos to our demo car for testing next week! We have had the turbo fitted with a B/B core and are mapping and dyno testing it on the 15th this month. After that we are doing a back to back comparison with some new cams we are fitting from Piper and then doing another run on the 16th. The car is on stock internals and is fitted with Motec M800 pro ECU with APS intercooler, 3 1/2" exhaust and induction. Walbro fuel pump and stock injectors. Its making 370atf at the moment so I'll post you the results up when we are finished, Great site BTW!

What parts do I need when swapping for the WR turbo?
I saw these listed on Forced Performance website.
GSCW Copper Crush Washers
GSOD Turbo Oil Drain Gaskets
GSTHIEVO EVO4-8 Turbine Inlet Gasket
GSTHOEVO8 EVO4-8 Turbine Outlet Gasket
GSTHEVO8bolt EVO4-8 Turbine housing inlet bolt

The most important things are having the 4 replacement studs for the turbine-to-manifold connection and the turbine-to-O2-sensor-housing. Some people say to use bolts instead. I just wanted to keep the stock set-up. You also really need to get a new oil return line gasket on the turbo side. It will rip off for sure. It seems to be glued to the bearing section of the turbo.

I also replaced the exhaust manifold gasket and the O2 housing exhaust gasket, but you could probably get away with reusing the stockers. There are some crush washers for the oil/water lines that are cheap and worth replacing.

Also, I'd get an extra banjo bolt for the oil feed line. Mine broke when I reinstalled it and when I mentioned this to a friend he recalled another local guy's turbo install where that bolt also broke in the same manner.

One items that's hard to find and expensive is nickel antiseize. I wanted to make sure that I could get stuff apart and this stuff is good to 2400-2600 degrees. It cost a whopping $20 though for 8 oz and I couldn't find a smaller container. Better to spend a little now than be fighting the cost/aggravation of snapped and seized bolts/studs in the future.

Hope that helps. My install seems to be 100%. No leaks or problems at all.

It is nice to finally see a dyno plot of a before and after on the same car even though the conditions are much different. Now there might only be a 26.5whp peak gain but there is more gain than that up top. At 7k it looks to be more around 50whp and that will make a big difference on the track. From what I am reading it seems like this is far from a final tune so this is very promissing.

I'm expecting about 35-45 peak hp and 50-70 at readline. This should make a pretty impressive car.

Why not? You could even fit the stock turbo with a BB core if you wanted to...

Actually there are two companies that I know of in the UK that have been offering 400whp ball bearing upgraded stock turbos for a few years now. Problem is that with the floating exchange rate I've seen the price on them fluctuate between $2800-$3200 before shipping.

All the ones I have installed have been in this configuration... even my own now, as I have switched back to the OE manifold after a blunder... damaging my tubular manifold.
