The tune is ultra safe at this point and we were dealing with a boost leak which I think I was able to identify and rectify this morning. I took Zarathustra for a ride tonight after the Best Buy meet and he confirmed while I was driving that the car now hits about 22-23 lbs peak and tapers to only about 20.5 - 21 lbs.

I think he was impressed with it, but you may want to ask him for his opinion.

Zarathustra, if you read this post, feel free to chime in.....

I'm very pleased with the car so far and yeah, I'm just drooling at the thought of what a difference the alky will make. This things spools SO quick!

Tony
Oh yeah your car is definitely impressive now. Hopefully Mark can beat that tune for both of us next weekend Of course now I need to figure out why I'm tappering so much.

Zarathustra,

Why don't you go in and check each and every clamp. I ended up having to double up two sections and also found that the the one on the outlet side of the intercooler was weak. It felt like it could go another turn or two and it ended up stripping. Luckily I had another regular hose clamp laying around and replaced it. I really want to get all the T-Bolts before next weekend so there is no chance of a blown hose.

That and installing my original BOV has made a world of difference. Driveability it SO much better with the stock valve and as you can see, it's holding pressure nicely. Now we'll see if it can take a couple of more lbs. when the alcohol gets tuned.

Wish is wasn't so hot though, this has GOT to hurt tuning potential.

I know this post was amazingly redundant and I basically said the same thing three times but just try to underand what im asking.
WORKS is tuning a car with this setup and duty cycle on the stock injectors is about 80% with 91 octane and ~24 PSI using alcohol/water injection and we're well within the margin of safety.

So are you saying that the WR turbo can function safely with the stock fp and stock injectors?

WITH ALCOHOL INJECTION

and the stock FP needs to be gone when cams go on the car....easiest thing in the world to change, and costs 80 bucks

Works will argue, but I believe only a fool would try this with the OE fuel pump!

I see only a mention of stock injectors in Jamie's post. I don't think he meant stock fuel pump too. If they are using the stock fuel pump than you are right, that is a dangerous combination.

The pump has been upgraded, but even a stocker should be able to handle the 80% duty cycle

I rode in a White Rabbit equiped Evo (Fast Frank's), yesterday, and I have to say... it's a badass turbo. It's definitely on my list.

Honestly... if you look in the engine bay, you can't even tell there was an aftermarket turbo installed. With the 272's and twin-discs.. wow!

Smile Here you go.....

Granted, you have to take a few things into account when reading this. The car was originally dynoed May 4th, 2005 at an ambient temperature of approximately 80 degrees.

With only one hour of tuning, a small boost leak that I think I have subsequently found and a whopping 100 degrees ambient temperature, here's what MZM was able to come up with:

There was only a net gain of 26.5 HP and 21.4 lbs TQ, but the boost was spiking at 23 and tapering down to 19.5. After getting the car home, cooling it off and doing some searching, I found the intercooler outlet junction to be a little loose. Tried to tighten it and the clamp stripped. Luckily I had an extra one laying around and replaced it. Now the car doesn't taper below 20.5 - 21 lbs.

If feels great! I went for a drive this morning on some new twisties that I found going out towards Medina Lake and the temperature outside was about 76 degrees. The car feels like a monster and I know that there's some more in there.

Hopefully Mark from TT will be able to massage the rest of it out of there as well as adding the alcohol injection power that's just waiting to be tuned for.

I wanted to give you an apples to apples comparision. Unfortunately, the boost leak does not make this absolutely accurate. At the very least you can see that spool is VERY close to stock but feels faster by the seat of your pants.

Thanks to everyone involved so far from installation to tuning. I have high hopes for this coming Saturday with Mark. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Tony
