mivec head on evo viii?

ive been debating on whether or not i want to do this. is it really worth it? or would i be better off with building up my current viii head?

also, what would be involved in terms of wiring? would the mivec even kick in if i use a standalone ecu?

yar.

I dont think its been done, and its really not worth the time or effort involved? The gains arent going to be that big, your better off getting a bigger turbo.....head swap would be a waste of money imo

btw bigger turbos dont need mivec to "kick" in this isnt vtec hondas were talkin aboot...More cam options are out for the VIII as well

Upgrade what you have dont worry about not having "mivec" you dont need it...

fair enough, i figured i would try something different, but if it yields little to no power / not practical (if its possible for that matter), not worth wasting the money. thanks for the input :T

Someone mentioned they swapped an evo 8 head on a evo 9 to use aem. So if that is the case the 9 head should also swap to the 8 block.

If you plan on staying with stock turbo and no aftermarket cams...yes...

If you plan on going big...the VIII/IX will perform the same...When it comes to the bigger turbos (from what I have gathered) the mivec doesn’t do much...

You can't say the VIII and IX will perform the same with a big turbo for two main reasons:

1) So far, the MIVEC appears to assist greatly in spoolup, which would mean much less turbo lag on a big turbo even with the stock 2.0. Or, how about super spool with a stroker _and_ MIVEC?

2) There's the possibility that MIVEC is a limiting factor when making really big power. I don't think we know yet until we see some GT42R IXs.

2.) was a concern for me as well when I thought about making a move to a 9.

If you are going to do that swap it would be best to transplant the entire engine and ecu and sell your evo 8 stuff
