Give me your car then blockhed! What differences will the AEM give, in terms of trap speeds, Boost, autoxing give, over the tuned ECU? The ECU is "safer", with less chance of issues correct? I am not sure. I think a standalone is in the car for someone who is familiar with "tweaking" their own maps, (UNLIKE ME), OR for the ease of tuning the car for the tuner. Is the gains of a standalone worth it in real world driving? If we have the same supporting mods, and you make it to the finish line 1/2 second faster with an AEM, I don't think it's worth the extra money. I will just use the money for a driving coach to whoop that 1/2 second off my times!

There is just so many more options with AEM and if you have a half of a brain, which I know you do, you can learn some stuff on it. Stick with what works for you, you got to be happy with your car and your choices. I got a deal on the aem so I couldn't pass it up.

I must have the WRONG half of the brain then! I am about Bewbies and coffee, nothing else sparks my interest. I don't even read directions when I put my kids Christmas presents together. I watch my kid ride down the street, on her "new" bicycle, and the front wheel falls off, or I put the pedals on backwards, etc.. I have No time/patience to learn how to BLOW UP my motor by tuning it! That is like buying/using a "Do it to yourself Neurosurgery kit!" Yeah, it might work, but you will have a pesky drool, and drag a leg wherever you go.

Your statement that "If you beat me by half a second by using an AEM" makes it not worth it then stick with the factory ECU. I REALLY think the AEM is a worthwhile investment.

I think you have to look at it this way. Your car is basically "complete" with this turbo upgrade. I don't see anything else you will be changing after this that is going to require the car being re-tuned.

I have tuned an awful lot of EVO/DSM's at this point and rarely hear back from any of them with a problem or that need a retune, UNLESS they change a part again. That happens though whether you have the AEM or an Exede or stock computer. You change something, you need a retune.

The stock computer is no more "safe" than the AEM, it is all dependent on how the knock control and such is set up in the AEM. Don't set it up and you are asking for trouble. I always use knock control on a customers car EVEN if it is tuned on race gas. Even our 8 second shop car has the knock control turned on.

It is entirely up to you. I can tune the car both ways. The AEM though I am guess on race gas will give you an additional 50 whp. If 50 whp isn't important that a turbo upgrade should definetely be skipped.

Ok, then that changes my viewpoint. I had NO IDEA the gains on a standalone were that HUGE! You are right, after this part, I am done. So repeated tunes are not necessary. Will think it over after a couple more gallons of coffee....................so, about an hour.

I say u should do a before and after test with this car cause I really can not see a 50whp gain on the green btwn AEM and a flash. The turbo is not big enugh for gains like that on race gas. I say btwn 20-30 NO MORE than 30whp. I cant say i have experience myself with it but it just doesnt seem possible

didn't dave make like 450whp out of his and other people are seeing around 411 or so?

he also had revolvers in there at the time so those count for something but i think 30-35 is a fair assumption.

Alright 50 whp might be a bit of a stretch but 30-40 whp I would put money on.

On race gas, I will say closer to the 50 whp I originally stated.

I have done the test. We will only need your car for a day.

Where does this 50whp come from? Is it just from speed density conversion, or is there something special the AEM lets a tuner do?
