I have the same problem with my '04 ralliart. Drove it off the lot with 13 miles on it, and it now has 67k on it. I don't think its anything serious. 66k and some change later and my tranny is still in good working order.

Either you typed that in a way that reads wrong, or you've hit your head.

That will cause the revs to climb very fast, kind of like emulating a clutch slip. That is not beneficial for anything at all that I can think of.

what I mean is proper shifting. if you decelerate before every gear change that is what happens especially in 1st, the gear pops out.

i'm describing what happens at .03 seconds of me shifting gears-the rev will not climb at that rate.

it doesn't sound like a shifting issue, but more mechanical. Until it gets worse, the OP is probably just sol. Hard to diagnose a problem (from the dealers prespective) if the problem doesn't exist during a test drive.

It's most likely either linkage issue, tranny housing cracked, or inside the tranny. Mitsu isn't going to go as far as pulling the tranny for inspection until they experience first hand, and I can't blame them, I'd do the same thing.

well i do know how to shift and have plenty of experience. It is just a mechanical problem, but not enough of a problem to check it out. Oh well.

Shifter linkage or cable length definitely could cause this problem.

Wow sounds WAY to familiar. I dropped my car at the dealership about 3 weeks ago now and they are suposed to be finishing it today or tomorrow morning. Mine was doing the Exact same thing finally it just wouldnt go into second or fifth gear if i was getting on the car. Took it to the dealership with my new exedy clutch, lol, and the rebuilt my tranny and installed my clutch and all for free.

They also told me that there is a new set of gears that are some kind of mitsu upgrade or something that if the 6 speeds break they can use. They said they used those, i obviously know how week they still are but hey it was free so i couldnt complain.

I dont know why the shifter cables would be to short. Im sure they didnt change them up from the WW to GG and mine along with everyone elses are fine. Never heard it but hey it could be.

Back in the day, the clutch was slowly on it's way out on my 'ol Escort... Around certain corners it'd pop out of whichever gear it was in. New clutch, no problem...

well, after 2 and a half weeks, i got my car back and everything is now fixed. they changed out the whole first gear assembly, and it was basically trial and error in finding the problem. Turns out it was the 1st gear sleeve. they had checked their data base for any signs of the same problem across the country, but couldn't find anything... (figures ) but anyways its all taking care off-
