i know someone who floated his stock valves reving to 8600 about 50/60 times..

anyways thanks for sharing...i am going to raise mine to 8300 now

quick questoin, do you shift at 8500 in every gear or just 4th?

it was a bolt on kit..but in order to run it you need bigger injectors, twin fuel pumps and a good azz intercooler ..all of which you can find at buschurracing.com
give them a call Jarrod will take care of you.

if your looking for 500whp all you really need (from the fuel side) is a walbro fuel pump and a Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump and large injectors. If your looking for more than 500whp you will need the twin pumps.

This isn't from personal experience, its from Mellon's experience

i am not 100% sure about this, but i think mellon has already/intended to switch to the twin pump setup...which by the way works greatly well.

also, if you are intending to use only 93octane fuel, i would highly recommend using the buschur 4" Race Core intercooler, with better cooling the engine is much less prone to knock.

believe me, if set up properly, along with other good supporting mods; this turbo is magic!!

it is a little laggy in comparison to the stock turbo...but think about it...what you loose down low, you gain 10 times as much up top!

BOTTOM LINE...IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.....I WOULD!!!!!

Its is very difficult to answer your question..because reliability depends on so many things other than the turbo kit...(i.e fuel, tune, boost, supporting mods and saftey mods etc.)
but IN MY OPINION, with the little lag this kit offers; it is like an ON/OFF switch...you are either hard and deep into boost or you are driving totally out of boost...which i think is reliable,

on my base tune, which was way off, i was running ~28psi and had 0 knock..i am now being tuned at ~30psi and getting the fine tune..i will throw it on the dyno when i am done.

cheers!

Yes, I shift at 8500 in every gear. I figure the higher the rpm the less lag between shifts.

BTW, what does 50/60 times mean? I revved my car to 8600 a few times, but I reduced it back to 8500, since the gain isn't worth the risk. Oh and what type of cams did the person that floated his valves have?

And just a bit of info. I am able to hit 140mph in 4th @ 8500rpm. Looks like the VIII and IX have the same final drive, but the gears are slightly different:

----VIII------IX
1--2.928---2.785
2--1.950---1.950
3--1.407---1.444
4--1.031---1.096
5--0.720---0.761

IX is geared taller in 1st, but seems to be geared shorter from 3-5.

Edit: Well for the 6 speed your ratios are:

1--2.909
2--1.944
3--1.434
4--1.100
5--0.868
6--0.693

not only do i have a IX...i am still running the stock 6-spd gear box

when it blows...i will have the shephard racing ultimate ratio gear box in no time..

Thanks

My setup is the same as your's, but I'll be running the stock heads with stock springs and retiners, will install ARP head studs thats for sure, BR deluxe FMIC, M2 cosworth cams, HKS DLI 2, and now am saving money for the HTA35R tubular turbo kite.

It will take a while til I can get the turbo kite, but I got most of the stuff.

P.S. Your avatar rules.

You should shift right around 7k, after that, your not really gaining anything. Im talking about for the 1/4 mile.

as an advice and out of personal experience i would suggest the following:

switch the Deluxe intercooler to the race core (especially that you are using only pump gas) which is much more efficient....search mellon's thread in the "service/parts review" forum as he did a test..

also i would highly recomend to get springs and retainers so you can rev to higher; and if you didnt get the cams already i would suggest you to use the M3 cams with this kind of turbo..believe me they scream up top!!!
