Perfect time to get it done, BUT...my personal goal is to do something with my son. All other issues are secondary. Nothing is more important to me than being with my son when WE meet our goals. I'm not complaining about any pressure, just stating why we haven't hit the track yet. I'm very well aware of other teams posting times and racing nearly non stop since we raced last. That doesn't change my desire to do things in conjunction with my son. We're now ready to launch our assault.
Bravo Tom, way to keep your eye on the prize!

As I get ready to build my car (for the twisties, not the quarter) I can think of nothing I'd rather do than have my dad helping me. Unfortunately he died of cancer a few years back. He taught me almost everything I know about cars and I was able to show him a 12-second run on the stock turbo before he passed. I was so proud of myself. Felt like a little kid all over again.

That's the real prize.

Yeah, JB, Sparky, I also lost my own father in 2004. Since then, I'm trying to create memories that will be remembered long, long, long after any record. I just like setting certain goals and going after them. We set one for the stock ecu/stock maf on the Green and made it. We also set the record for high mph, regardless of stock ecu or aftermarket. Those records are or were broken, just as the new ones will be broken. Nothing lasts forever, except good memories. We're both ready to start racing again and I think we have things in place to get the job done. We still have a few changes that I could make, but we've made enough for the time being. I'm thankful for the time that my father and I spent together fishing or just talking. Now that he's gone, I have to assume the role of the father figure and recreate those same memories for my son. I can assure you of one thing. We may not make any records, but we'll certainly make some good memories.

JB, I re-read your post twice and feel what you felt. I know the feeling you're talking about and glad you got the opportunity to share that moment with your dad. I think you probably understand very well what I'm saying.

great looking setup in the driveway guys. My son is about to turn 13, I can't wait until he can drive...he already helps me wrench on the EVO and Stealth. He earns allowance by changing out my street/drag rims for me etc...and likes doing it.

I'd like to see this thing in person. I am really curious how it sounds with just a straight pipe. That would be cool if you got a chance to put a video together. Nah, I think I need to hear it in person.

Come to Tulsa tonight. We will be running it there. Have you had a chance to take yours to the track yet?

9sec9, my best memories are of just hanging out and talking. The years we drove all over the country racing, hauling two cars etc. when I look back on that the things that stick out in my memory the most are the times in the evenings when we were finally done working and got to sit back, drink some beers and eat. Myself and Kevin Lawson were just talking about all that just a few days ago actually. He told me he use to think I was nuts telling him how much that part of it all meant to me. He says now, a few years later, he gets it and agrees. Those are the good times.

Good luck to you and Tony. I wish you guys the best. Two class acts and you deserve to meet your goals.

Thanks David. We could not even come close to meeting our goals if it was not for everyone involved and helping us.

We went to Tulsa last night to give the car it's first shake-down runs after all of the 'building'. It was kind of like getting kissed from your sister, although I don't have a sister I can imagine.
Pass 1: This run was totally a learning and feeling out the car type run. We launched on the low rpm 2step, short shifted 1-2, same for 2-3 and 3-4. Then when in 4th, I told Tony to just drive at same speed, no loads basically in 4th. Remember, this is really his first time back in the car for 3 months and never on the Tilton ON-OFF clutch. The first 60 was 1.51, not bad. I used this log to see what was happening as far as AFR, Timing, Loads etc. The air was so heavy and hot that air intakes logged 118.x. Just standing outside and doing very little work, sweat was pouring off of me. Also, this first run had plugs misfiring, but I figured it would clear those off. Eventually it cleared up about 90%, so I ended up changing them out just prior to the 3rd run.
Pass 2: Tony ran the car out a little bit more, still with a little misfire and a totally aborted launch. 60' was 1.96. Car bogged due to boost only up to 5 psi. A temporary TREE Official used a pro-tree and the previous and all subsequent trees were Sportsman. Caught off guard, the car wasn't ready on the 2step, so it was all motor for a while pulling out of the hole. The car went 11.27 at 125. Put up the pen and paper, no letters being written home. AFR's were showing 11.1-11.5 for most of the run. I bet Tony lost 5 lbs just sweating in the car. It didn't feel too bad outside because the cars had a 4-5 mph head wind. Just enough to move the air, but the humidity seemed higher than expected.
Pass 3: Best of the night. I made a few AFR , Mivec and Timing changes, as well as upped the 2step by 150 rpms. The RPM's helped a lot, but tire spin at 16psi was a little too much. The 60' was 1.54, 1/8 was 6.680 @ 107.6. The car looked real strong pulling away. Then it happened....on the edge of your seat? The car Tony was running against had red-lit, so he was out front and it began to loose it and started to cross into Tony's lane. Being smart, but in the middle of a great pass, Tony backed completely off the throttle. The logs show he was off throttle about .6 seconds and when it got back into it, he had lost 1.3 seconds of off throttle and boost time until it got back up to normal psi. He was a little irritated to say the least. 10.45 @ 130.67. No doubt about the run being on track for 9.xx, but that's just conjecture. Logs show a lot of lost time and boost. We made another pass right at the end of the night and with 2 missed shifts it went 11.06 @ 133.86 mph.
The car showed it's potential, now we'll work on the tune a little more and the driver mod. In summary, a decent 60 for laying off so long, a personal best 10.45 and a nearly 134. Also, this newbie tuner made my first on-my-own changes to David's safe tune. AFR's were very safe and as I get used to the new AEM, I'll feel a little better about making changes. The car has a lot in it, we've just got to get it out of it now.
