So does this put anymore pressure on the diff. because you can already hear it pop when speed shifting? Or is it fine?

I just installed the stainless clutch line from http://www.speed-source.net/ and removed the restrictor. It feels like I have a new car again...... I love it..... the clutch is **** now, no more chatter, no more smelling the stink, no more guessing where the thing will engage the next time. It is really solid. I am going to leave the stock clutch and plate in and see how long it lasts, I have 16,700 miles on the car so far

Took me about 2 hours for both, really simple job, I recommend this to everyone who owns the EVO

voodooutt,

That's one of the best lines i've seen out for the Evo. It looks like it has a 'factory fit and finish' quality with correctly angled banjo end and retaining bushing for the clip in the middle of the line. Can you confirm this? That the use of wire ties is not neccessary to secure the line? It costs a bit more than others, but if it's made with the fit and finish quality like the stock hose, it's worth it.

yep, basically factory fit and finish, no hassle what-so-ever. and the retaining bushing in the middle fits perfectly. no zip ties needed. I'd recommend this line to anyone.

I have performed both of these mods and noticed an improvement. One question came to mind after I had completed the changes, though. Would just bleeding the clutch slave had made a difference? I only ask this because people performing either (or both) of these mods are seeing improvements, and both mods require bleeding the clutch. Any thoughts?

I have read about both of these fixes and done a search on my problem which is grinding into 2nd gear on fast shifts. Will these SS line alone solve this or is the restrictor removal required as well? I have 2700 miles on the Evo 8 and want to keep the original clutch as long as I can. I have been driving standard shift and racing for years. Lastly will either of these mods nulify the warranty? Thanks for any help you can give me.

These two mods helped a lot... GM syncoshift in the tranny, and red line in the diff completely cured it...

Hi Solo2, The clutch line and restrictor mods will probably only make very small difference in your 1-2 shift. Pulling the clutch slave restrictor could definitly be argued as voiding a clutch or transmission warranty from a legal point of view; I don't think replacing the line could be.

The Evo actually uses an extra syncro for 2nd gear (and 3rd? - I don't remember) gear and the problem is the time it takes for everything to line up. People have been using GM Syncromesh or BG Syncroshift transmission fluid to help improve shifting. Changing the fluid made a big difference in my car. Another option is to get some better shifter bushings (metal or urathane) and try those out. They will be my next transmission related upgrade.

If that isn't what you're looking for, some people are having trannys rebuilt by good performance shops with decent results.

I put my SS clutch line in the other day. When I took the slave cylinder off and looked inside I did not see anything that looked like the pictures people posted of the restrictor. Is it supposed to come out easily, because I tried pushing REALLY hard with an allen wrench, small screwdriver and a couple other things. On the write-up on evomoto.com it seemed like it would just pop right out. Nothing came out of my slave cylinder. Also, what looked like a washer was on each side of the big spring. Is either one of those the restrictor. I know it may be hard to udnerstand what I'm saying but it's hard to describe without pictures. Is it possible mine just didn't have a restrictor in it from the factory?

1st & 2nd gear have 3 dyncros, 3rd & 4th have 2 syncros, while 5th gear only has 1 syncro

I removed my restrictor pill yesterday, yes clutch engagement feel is great but was getting super notchy shifts at the track last night, especially from 3rd to 4th which I had never experienced before, delay between shifting gears was actually slowing me down. Anyone else experience this with the restrictor removal? I also have a extended clutch
slave cylinder pushrod installed.
