I run vr1 20w50 in all my built motors, never had an issue related to oil, it's cheap and easy to get, run a good oil filter, change the oil every 1500-2000 miles or sooner depending on track use, and be happy I'm not paying $9+ a quart for my oil changes. If the day comes I experence an engine failure because I'm not running some very expensive synthetic oil, well then I guess I'll have to change my ways.
One of my mentors once told me (lol) "there is no such thing as changing oil too often..." I feel that mindset applies to more then just oil changes as well.

I run vr1 20w50 oil in my BR 2.0l and haven't had any issues other than the oil seems to get dark within the first 100 miles. Anyone else notice this and is that normal?

I've seen the same thing with VR-1. However, not as quickly as 100 miles. Maybe about 500? Anyway, I like to check the viscosity every once in a while with my fingers and go by that instead of color.

Also I noticed some confusion in this thread. There are TWO different kinds of VR1 Racing oil. The kind that autozone and advance carry is NOT the synthetic oil. Its just regular. To buy the synthetic VR1 you have to order it online. None of the stores around me carry the VR1 synthetic. Just the VR1 regular.

I can't imagine changing oil every 1000 miles on a street car....For me, that would not be practical. Then again, I thought 3k miles intervals were too short ....

Ah OK. Thanks for the info. Where do you usually get it from?

What bearing clearances would a hight hp 4g motor be happy with intentions to run 20-50 oil?
Just curious as some of you guys said that "looser" bearing clearances are needed on hight hp motors.
Thanks
