To respond to this, if you're shooting for anything over 450hp, it's my personal recommendation to make sure you have another car at your disposal just in case something happens. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's better to be prepared.

Small update:

KevinD should know later today exactly what is wrong with the motor. They pulled the oil pan a few days ago and Kevin said the rod bearings appear to be in perfect condition.

I also bought a 1990 Miata 1.6L to drive around in the mean time. 115hp, but fun as hell.

My wife has a IS300, we bought a 81 Suzuki Sidekick 4 door and she just got a 08 STi. If i didn't have options I don't know if i would've made this move with the Evo. Wish you luck man. i hope you keep it.

Actually, KevinD thinks the problem is with a broken bolt in the flywheel. They're pulling the tranny. The motor seems to be in good condition. I will know more tomorrow.

that's good news for you. hopefully that's all it is and its an easy fix.. maybe one wasn't loctited enough or something and vibrated loose. I've seen that happen in dsm's a bunch of times on the forums after people remove balance shafts since it creates more vibrations.

didnt your car also have all solid torque mounts also? that will really stiffen it and make it vibrate more also.

no worries my cars on jack stands right now also.. yours is on a lift though i know.. but ya.. they all break.. my turbo blew up lol. normally these kind of cars will turn you into a mechanic and that is no joke.

well i have a custom hybrid fp black coming from the uk with ball bearing center-section and also keeping the journal bearing, so if one goes i got another one to put on right away. you can only do so much with stock frame turbos.. if it continues ill just go to a dry sump setup or switch a non stock frame ets kit. its most likely due to not having the oil pickup submerged at all times and it sucked in air.. horrible for a journal bearing turbo with steel on steel thrust bearing design. im hoping the ball bearing will be fine, since they dont require as much oil delivery or oil pressure as a journal bearing turbo. go to the engine/turbo section under advanced and you will see my progress.. ill receive it mid july or earlier.

So was it the flywheel after all? How would this cause the metal shavings you found in the oil?
