I'm currently working on a custom 2.3 for Curt Brown. The 2.3 is my favorite for a street engine when you want torque. I'm sure there will br some threads coming up about Curts new build. I don't see 9,000 rpm being a problem with this one.

Depends on the brand Gergo, some of them are lighter than the standard 150mm rods in use. The current GSC H beam is 607g, the new releases will be lighter yet. The R&R Steel are 588g for the 159mm

Weight list as given by Ted B on some namebrand 150mm rods-

Stock = 695 grams

Aluminum:
GRP = 470 grams
Map = 470-480 grams
Groden = 490 grams
R&R = 500 grams

All other material:
Crower titanium = 410 grams
Carrillo = 520 grams
Engine pro = 557 gram
Manley H beam = 573 grams
Eagle = 575 grams
Oliver = 605 grams
Pauter lightweight = 610 grams
Crower = 612 grams
Scat = 640 grams
Map billet rods = 652 grams
Pauter = 685 grams
Manley I beam = 690 grams

Sounds like this 2.3L block will rival AMS's 2.3L RR engine...

Yes, Ron of course you can but stop by so we can talk about it. There are some extra expenses to building this one we have to go over, because of parts costs. Let me know ASAP I think your engine is going together very soon.

AMS's 2.3RR engine I believe is based on the 4g64 block, right? I have no desire to do an engine like that, this one is 4G63 blocked.

Hey Aaron,

I think that Carrillo weight is for their A-beam design, not their H-beam.

I agree. The R&R weights for a 150mm rod were almost identical to the Carrillo rod weight. IIRC it was 572 grams for the Carrillo or R&R @ 150mm.

Love the 159mm

As an fyi, I'm now almost to 20k miles on my 87mm bore 2.4 block using the PE gasket.

no issues at all

The car is a true daily driver that I commute to work in! It pretty much gets thrashed on every day! I've pretty much stopped even thinking of engine problems with this build, It has been rock solid!

drivetrain challenges are another matter though!

David's got me pretty stoked about this 2.3, ive always have run 2.0's but since im sticking with stock framed turbo's there is no real need to exceed 8500rpm except the top of 4th gear at the dragstrip wich has been a twice a year thing anyways. This build is more of a real nice street car, we made 481whp and 451tq on Buschurs dyno with the 2.0 and Green spiking 34psi falling to 25, I will be real curious of the new motor overlaying that chart. Cool thing about this 2.3 is it will probably make the same power on pump as the car made on E85 being the 2.3 is more pump gas friendly.
