New BW EFR Turbo Thread
#2671
To the guys that have the 7163IWG. Due to the smaller housing I was just wondering if you think it would fit with a short runner and if it doesn't what stops it and is there anything that can be done to make it fit.
I'd like to be able to run a short runner that can have a heat shield over the top to hide everything. In Aus it's illegal to have no heat shield and we tend to get fined for almost everything.
Anything I can do to make any mods look less obvious is always a good thing.

We do, but's it's not necessarily to do with the age. It's more to do with what the car had from the factory. It's also got a lot to do with what sort of mood the copper is in and how good is knowledge is.
Technically coil overs are illegal as well, but I've had coppers ask me if the car came with them and I just say yes (I think they care more that the lowest point on the car is more than 100mm from the ground). On the other side of the coin I've heard some people getting fined for having a stock BOV.

they make those bolt on subaru kits which have proven pretty potent.

yeah thats what i assumed, but it would be very neat to find a "stock like" manifold (whether it be something like a toxic fab replacement etc) that could accomplish that. is that the route you are heading mrfred?
i did a ton of research last year, and just came to the conclusion that an efr setup was too cost prohibitive for me...but if we could collectively find a way to beat/match the price point of the new fp setup, i think that the efr would be a technologically better choice.
EDIT: didnt notice fullrace makes something other than the top mount these days, although its only t3/t4

Is it only the length that is causing the dump to hit the ac that is the problem.
Does that mean a custom short runner design that pushes the turbo to the right by a couple of inches would work?
Idthere any definitive proof that a equal length manifold helps spool as opposed to a short runner that has less internal area to pressurize.

Ok guys, so I am completely new to BW turbos as I've always used FP or Mitsu turbos in my Dsm and Evo's.
Please excuse me as I don't really want to read 179 pages to get basic info.
From my understanding, the intrest in these turbos boils down to maximum spool, hope I'm right with that.
I'm currently on a FP Green and I will be looking to maximize my torque curve and maintain 400-450whp..
I would really like 300wtq at 3000 rpms if possible.
Am I right in thinking the 7163 might be the BW turbo for me? Do they mount to our manifolds or will we need custom manifolds and down pipes?
