just wanted to update this.
car has 6800 miles on it now. we recently pulled the head off the car to diagnose a poor running condition.. to find out it was from the trigger plate moving out of time due to a missing crank key.. so i ordered a new crank key, threw it on with a new trigger plate & cas, assembled everything back, and car fired right up. the place we bought the crank from did not have the key on crank so it was never used in the first place, which is what allowed the plate to shift out of time.
well when i had the head off i was able to check the cyl walls and so forth for wear and usage.. it doesn't get much better then this at 7000 miles almost on a built engine that does 130mph passes consistently in the 1/4 (when it was 550whp) - now it has close to 630 and will be back soon again to get a new ET & mph.
here is a pic of inside the engine after 7k miles just about.. pistons are alittle black at top because when the trigger plate moved out of time, the car ran extremely rich, and was driven like that for a bit to get it from the track to his house (40 miles shooting flame *****) and so forth since the plate moved at the track.

cyl walls still have a lot of cross hatching on them, no wear marks, nothing abnormal.. seems the ring gap ive chosen works damn good & ptw clearance is good.
the car does not burn hardly any oil (not built super loose so its power limited), and is making decent power.. more then most with his turbo setup and soon to be even faster/quicker once we get it back to the track.
so id say it was a successful first engine build. next track visit it should dip into the 10's.

^ yup all of that is correct ive been running the past 2 days, have driven it about 180 miles all ready, HARD MILES TOO everything is 100% with it. The motor does have about 7,000 mile on it now from driving it a 1,000 miles to BR shootout and back ect.
Only thing it needs is more boost and little tweaks in the map to make it run 100% tune wise!

bumping a old thread! The car is back apart due to cluch/trans issues. The trans is pulled off and just got sent to Shep for a 4.11 Final Drive and Evo 8 3rd and 4th. getting a Exedy Thriple also. Will post pics up of the cluch and what broke later today!
its crazy how much we have done with this car and seeing how it was the first engine i've ever built. of course it wouldn't have been so successful if it wasn't for my machine shop (jackson auto machine) doing a great job on the machine work. Steves evo is kicking some serious *** and making a good name for our community every time he takes it out of his garage!

I had a PM in regards to this thread, so I wanted to put a final update on it.
We have built around 100 engines to date now, and are building more and more as time goes on. I have 8 at the shop right now to assemble for example.
