Would you say this is a necessity? Or preference?

Honestly I dont know. I did it for few reason. I am running GSC R2 cams and 1mm oversized valves. I wanted to makes sure I has enough area. Maybe engine builder can chime in for better clarification.

My shop is telling me that my 03 outlander water pump is not lining up. Wtf??? I thought it was a direct bolt up? Anyone else have any issues with it? I knew I should have just used MAPs adapter.

"healing" the CC isn't actually necessary... plenty of people have gone without it with fine results... it increases cc volume... which reduces compression to what is spec'd to the pistons usually... and i could see it done to reduce a heat spot... but thats just a theory.

its one of those things like o-ringing the block or head... people do it but nobody is really sure why... oringing isuseful if you don't use an MLS head gasket i hear... can't say never done that either.

I ordered the GMB 2003 Outlander water pump and it works fine. Not sure what they mean by 1/4 inch off at the pulley. The only mod to running the pump will be to either put a spacer between the pulley and pump or sand down the timing cover a little. I opted for the sanding feature.

If it doesnt bolt up, its the wrong pump. The 4g63 and 4g64 have had the same water pump bolt pattern for 20+ years.

I did it the hilbilly way. I started the car letting the pulley wear into the cover for a minute or so. This way I had an idea of out far to go. I didnt want to test fit it 500 times. Then I took it back off and used a dremel to clean it up. I did not take a picture with it apart.
