Do I need to worry about valve clearance with my Kelford 272s? My head was machined when I blew the head gasket cause it was warped. The block decked. We're using a cometic HG.

The turbo tuff rods are larger on the bottom and the block does require machining to clear. I will add it to the original post.

Shouldnt as long as your timing is right. I have kelfords as well, head shaved twice, block decked .003. No issues here.

Should be fine. Im running a stock 8 gasket.

After doing some research, I found that the 2.4L engines love the kelford 280s. I maybe switching to those next year. the 272s dont flow enough air for the 2.4 since it was tested with a 2.0 engine. The 2.4 with the 280s will sound like a 2.0 running 272s.

Great. Thanks guys. I have a couple potential buyers so I want to make sure it's built correctly.

Did anyone do anything "special" to the head in order to make it work?

Buschur's website talks about some special work that has to be done to the combustion chamber in the head in order to work correctly with the 4G64 block.

"The cylinder head will also need work to the combustion chamber to work correctly with this engine. "

That probably has something to do with the long rods and BR spec pistons.

If you are running the standard 150mm rods, stock crank and pistons, no head work is required. Mine runs fine and nothing hits.

I don't think it's because of the LR option. The standard 2.4L has the same message on their website, while the LR 2.0 does not.

Either way, you've answered my question, thanks!

Well I hope no special beadwork is needed. If I remember correctly BR orings the head. Maybe that's what they're talking about. I had my head machined because it was warped. That's all I've done. My block was decked, bored .020, honed and I'm using long rods and 1400HD pistons with Kelford 272 cams and super tech dual springs and retainers. Fingers crossed it works fine.

Heal chambers need to be bored due to bigger bore on block. I just picked up my block and head from Jackson auto machine. I had them rework the chambers to block bore size.

Details/pics on this please? I've been fiddling with DSM 4G64's for a while and never heard of this.

how many people running 2.4L 4G64 blocks with 4G63 heads did NOT heal the combustion chamber? This is really the first I've heard of this and the damn motor is supposed to go together next week.

4G63 is 85mm and my 4G64 is 87mm. I end up getting the head chambers bored out 2mm to match my 4G63 bore. I will take pics of the head tomorrow.
