Question Transmission Problems

So my car has not given me any signals of anything wrong. Today I am normally driving around and when I try to shift from 4th to 5th the transmission got stuck in 4th. The shifter is really stiff and will only move to the right. It will not come out of gear. I checked the linking point above the transmission and it all seems good. Any ideas or suggestions? BTW it's an 06 MR with the original 6 Speed.

I would pop off the cables from the trans and manually move the shifter link. This will help isolate the shifter cables if they are binding/corrosion in the cables or binding/bent shift fork.

If you can move the trans link, its the cables or shifter and if you cannot move the trans its internal to the trans.

I removed the top one and the cable opens and closes fine but the part of the transmission the connects to it still does not move.

Should I remove the part of the linkage that bolts to the transmission so I can look down inside?

Did you remove both cables? They move in syncronization of eachother. Both should move indepidently once the cables are off. Also, press in the clutch and set the e-brake. If there is pressure on the gears, the shift forks may not move by hand.

I would not recommend taking it apart. I have not had one apart but if there are springs or retainers, you may cause other problems. If it is indeed stuck, you will need a rebuild.

It may be time for a 5 speed swap.

I'm removing both cables once I am home today but I'm pretty sure the tranny needs a rebuild

Thats a bummer. I know jacks transmissions does a great job. They did mine a few years back and no problems. Ive made plenty of track passes and auto x events. Making around 500whp.

Sounds like a Bent shift fork, 4-3 shift fork, thats the weakest one if i remember correctly, i think the 1-2 was the beefy one. 3-4 and 5-R are on the same rail.

Does anyone have a how to on removing the tranny? I've never done it on this car and it seems pretty straight foward but I just don't wanna run into any unsuspected obstacles.
