So the car is now running and I took it for a few miles of driving after letting it warm up and checking for leaks. Didn't get on it, but did stomp in 3rd from ~2500rpm to see how the boost responds. It has some additional lag, but it at ~4K rpm it looks like the boost goes from 5psi to 25psi pretty quick so I think this thing is gonna hit like a freight train at 4400rpm. I also now have extra MIVEC advance capabilities so I think I can help spool by ramping in more cam timing on spool.
Unfortunately, I noticed a small drippy drippy from the aluminum lower radiator tube on the very last weld. Must be a pinhole leak and it is definitely not coming from a higher location. I probably should have pressure tested the damn thing, but going to let it cool and then drain the coolant, pull the pipe, and pressure check.
Video Attached of the Leaky Leaky! Quick fix and the car is running again. Gonna take it through a few heat cycles to burp the system, but think this thing has promise!
GTX3582r Gen I vs S362-SXE in 3rd Gear. Not a fair comparison after 25psi because I have the boost controller turned down so it will fall over on the top. Once the system is burped time to light it up.
Looks like it should do fine. It'll likely spool a bit quicker once the boost is turned up as well, it also looks like you started the pull later. Should be a solid setup as long as it makes the power up top.
The car was feeling kind of flat and I had a code for the front o2 heating element since it is not plugged in. I plugged it in and zip tied it away and cleared the code. Car feels much better and spool has improved by ~100rpm. I also see that I can do much better on ignition timing and MIVEC so I hope to improve more tomorrow during my tuning session. I will place the front O2 in my rear ports so it is not zip tied in the engine bay. I should have the boost up to 33psi tomorrow with some VD graphs.
So I guess I could not wait. Car is pretty heat soaked after several back to back runs so VD was saying ~534@wheels and temps are ~78F. I will do a log in the morning after it warms up to get a decent sense for what the dyno will show. Not too discouraged since I saw similar variance in my VD stuff with the GTX setup, but definitely don't feel like this is a 100+hp turbo.
So this is the current state of comparison of the new setup vs the old setup, which is only slightly more laggy. After ramping in more timing during spool and playing with the MIVEC it made it come on boost faster. I feel a bit better now knowing that I am running a bit lower on timing so I will play around with that tomorrow to raise it by 1-2deg.
So I overlayed the log of the load comparing the GTX3582r vs S362 and it is definitely making more power. These are the same two logs as in the previous post. This explains why my ignition timing is down because I am at a different load value so I will correct this and run it in the morning so hopefully this will wake up the turbo.
