Timing 2.4l evo 9 mivec. Pics for assurance! Ty!
i went through all the threads and the more I read, the more confused I get. I looked at the photos on this thread and I see that he has his mivec gear to the right of the vc mark. and he is using the 64 tbelt. mines is right on the mark and im using the 63 tbelt. I put enough tension on the tensioner so that even after a bunch of revolutions, I could still insert the grenade pin with ease. I really hope I am doing this correctly.
This thread thoroughly shows it. If you can't figure it out from that, I would suggest taking it somewhere that is familiar with doing it so you don't have any issues.

Try to setup the timing to what you think is correct and check for true tdc like you did in your video. If your timing is off that will show you. Also i highly recommend getting the gates t256 timing belt that is in the other post. It provides one extra tooth on the belt to ensure you are getting appropriate tension on the belt. Too much tension on the timing belt can cause oil pump failure. The belt is relatively cheap too. I think i got mine fron rock auto and it was less than $40 shipped and arrived within a couple of days.

To each is there own. I didn't like the tension the 63 belt had so I opted to go with the 64 Belt instead and have been running it for going on 3 years now with no issues with the stock under drive pulley.

I have 4 4g64 based builds running around on the 63 belt without issue. One of the them is a 2.4LR that revs to 8500 and makes 860 wheel.
I much prefer the stronger 63 belt on my 64 based 2.2. No problem with it being too tight but it can be a little tricky just getting over the tensioner pulley if you dont have the cam gears with an insert to hold in place.
Also worth noting, the hydraulic tensioner is what decides the tension of the belt. So, unless you set the tensioner pulley to where the hydro tensioner bottoms out (IE- you didn't follow the grenade pin method for tensioning the belt), you literally can not over tension the belt.
Well i make around 800 to the wheel on a standard 2.4 that revs to 9k so if that's doing it wrong i can live with that.
