David is the best - period. Glad your car is running better, its a really well put together and nice looking machine.

Hey Ray. Don't be so quick to judge XS Engineering. The owner used to work for Apexi and did a lot of work during the development of the Power FC and did much of the training on it as well. I'm not sure of Dave's policy, but it's not THAT uncommon on that thing since it's not everybody that has the license for the software.

NOW....The fact that your map was set up for 1000cc's does not surprise me at all, but inherently doesn't make much of a diffference if the fueling was set up correctly (in other words not detrimental, but should be set correctly...because, well...just because). I'm sure a few of Dave's grumbles came from the way your "Knock Control" was set-up, if it was anything like mine...COMPLETELY WRONG, as we spoke of before. I'm glad to hear it's working well, I'll PM you since you are online about a few things as well.

He could have tuned the car with Power Excel WITHOUT the password, but chose not to because of time constraints. It's not a big deal, but apparently needs to be clarified since people are stuck on it for some reason. Mynes did not have the password for the particular map because they tuned with the Commander which has also been stated ad nauseum. It's really simple guys. No need to beat this horse any longer.
im not trying to cause any problems or blame anyone, I am probably to blame for much of the confusion but I am confused again as mynes has states on previous posts that he would have given out the password if someone asked him!!!!! so..........did he or didn't he have the password. I already know that everyone at vivid is under the consensus that mynes does not have the password......but I cannot overlook what mynes said more than twice already, that he had the password and would have given it out if someone called. So........ some clarification please.

This is what I am talking about, here it is stated; that he had the password, but no one called.

He was unaware that they did not have it, he spoke out of turn on that point is all.

Hi guys,

I had a great time at Vivid, despite the huge headaches with trying to get the wiring sorted out in Dieters car. A huge thanks to Mitch and Clark for all their help in trying to get it sorted out too. The car made 498 whp/468 ft lbs of torque at 6,000 rpm and only 20 psi of boost. It was quite incredible, I never pulled the car further than 6,000 rpm as it kept shutting off from some electrical gremlin we never found.

Mitch is a very worthy tuner from what I could see. He seemed extremely knowledgable so the comment about Vivid not having a good tuner..............throw it out.

Ray, glad you are happy with the car! I'd have liked to thrown some C16, nitrous or whatever you wanted on there and made more power. It did really well though for the fairly low boost and octane we ran! Nice car and well put together. The map that was in it was screwed up, knock control was wrong, idle was wrong, injector offsets, ignition settings were wrong blah blah blah. On the bright side of things I see more messed up AEM EMS maps than I do correct ones, so atleast you weren't alone

PJ, sorry I couldn't tune the car. The Apexi Power FC is a time consuming unit to tune, IF done correctly. I do use the Power FC Pro software as we are an Apexi Pro tuner shop. There are only a few of us in the country. The Power FC has a ton of great features and the driveability is just awesome with them. ONLY A PRO Dealer can set a password and it is done with the Power Pro software. A password cannot be set with the Commander. I am sure XS Engineering had the password, nobody else. I'd like to think had I been able to speak with Eric from XS he would have given me the password, maybe not. It's not like I need to see their maps, it was just the only way I was going to tune the car. The Pro software makes tuning it MUCH faster. The map was working obviously as the car was running, it just needed some MAJOR adjustments. I am not going to point fingers but the tune in the car at WOT was just flat out ****ED up. You are very lucky the car did not blow up. With the amount of timing and the AFR's in the 13.5:1 range the only thing that saved you was the race gas. I'd also say something is set up wrong in the map as you thought you had 20 psi of boost viewing the Commander when in fact it was about 30 psi.
I'd suggest taking it back to Mitch to let him get the AFR's nice and flat and safe. I could have overwritten the program you had and started from scratch but it would have taken me more time than I had. Sorry. With the AEM I have so many base maps to use I can tune any combination very quickly. With the Power FC I have a MUCH smaller data base to pull base maps from and it would have taken a long time for me to tune the car.

I am thinking of coming back out, I still have to tune Dieters car. I'll let you guys know if I decide to come to Phoenix again.

Wow that's almost 500hp- great results!

That's messed up about the tune though- who tuned the car before?

Hey Dave,
Thanks for dispelling the myth that Vivid doesn't have a tuner.

Ray's map was a disaster....agreed. (especially knock control)

Now. Not to throw names around, or "he said she said", but Eric and I are very good friends and I would have gladly had him call you when I called him on his cell. His words exactly were, "We don't give the password out to anybody, not even Apexi. It's nothing against Dave, he's a friend of mine, but it's just something we simply don't do."

I didn't realize anyone called Eric at XS, I thought only Mitch called and didn't talk to Eric. Oh well, then, I had thought maybe he would have hooked me up, I guess I was wrong. I will keep that in mind for future use. I could understand that had it been a totally unmolested map in a winning race car. Since the map had been completely messed up by someone else I wouldn't think it was a big deal. Like I said, future reference.

As for Dieters car, yes, 498 is almost 500 whp I think at 32-35 psi the car would have hit 600 whp, which would have been a GT35R Mustang Dyno record. I am still baffled as to why that car was so strong..........and we built it haha

hey dave,

thank you for trying with the PFC. i understand that it takes some time to tune.. it has been nothing but a nightmare so far for me. I am thinking of currently switching to some other form of engine management. I wish that XS would just give up the pw because like you said the map isnt even theirs anymore being that it was changed...I hope you get a chance to come out again. If you do I would like to set up something again so I can finally get my car tuned by you........

Whoa! Everybody take a step back from the keyboard and listen up. This thing is getting way out of hand about the PASSWORD and doesn't need to be, typical internet crap. Read this post carefully before responding so we can put an end to this.

Mitch @ Vivid asked if I could contact Eric @ XS Engineering (on a Saturday) to ask him if he could give out the password to a map on an Evo that XS had tuned. (because it was password protected) I told him I would call Eric.

1. There was NO MENTION THAT THE MAP HAD BEEN MOLESTED. I found that out later.
2. I'm sure XS has only a handful of passwords they use, very doubtful they use different passwords per map isn't it? (as I posted earlier) So I would not give it out either, not to Dave, not to ANYBODY.

Dave...I don't think you had all the correct info before you took a personal tone about your future dealings with Eric, and I hope you will find them to be unwarranted with the correct information.

Peace.

Brett
