Warranty Issues <Mega Merge>
Ive heard about this and dont understand this at all. Why would you produce a car that is designed to be on a track? Its just as bad buying a lotus exige and not being able to track it. Well i've been to 2 events so far and owned the car since may of 09 and have about 2k miles left untill warranty expires so im not really worried, but this is still insane
Has there been incidents of Mitsu techs visiting Evo meets, events and car shows to try to get info on the newer cars (under warranty) to cross-reference VIN #s with cars with obvious boltons or bragged-about modifications, to then void the car's warranty? I would advise all of us who like to show our cars, like at the upcoming South Coast/HB Mitsubishi EVO show, Jan 24th, 2010, to put a small tape strip over the VIN # on their dash at the shows.
well I went to automax mistu here in Killeen , Tx a few weeks ago to see about getting my brembo's replaced for turning pink and chipping and also my steering is peeling at 6 oclock. They procede to take pictures stating that mitsu corporate requires paint defects to be sent to them. The service advisor even looks under my engine bay looking for mods like that would have anything to do with my complaint. He sends them off and then I get a call from Melinda at corporate a few weeks later and she tells me based off the pics they can tell brake cleaner has been sprayed on the calipers and that is the cause of my brembo calipers fading and chipping. I tell her I dont understand how a picture can determine i used brake cleaner when in face I never have. She then states automax told them they could tell I sprayed brake cleaner on them which is a bunch of bs. After going back and forth she told me if I wanted to escalate the case I would have to go outside of mitsu to do so and also my steering wheel isn't a defect. This is the last mitsu I will own nor will I give any money to automax's parts department.
I plan to take mine in for some warranty issues when I get home. The only thing I have done to it is had an alarm/remote start installed, and changed out the head unit. I'll see what they say and post again.
I see a few also have the peeling on the steering wheel, that is what annoys me the most.

^^^ The contract may be transferred to another buyer. Just have the seller notify the company within 30 days of the date of sale, with the bill of sale, and any transfer fee and verifiable service records evidence.
It is extremely disappointing that Mitsubishi has turned its back on such a loyal and proud group of customers. Are they completely blind to what a tremendous marketing asset we could be? It's especially frustrating when I hear about how differently Subaru treats their WRX and STI owners. Remember when new WRXs and STIs came with free SCCA memberships?
I really think we need to make our voices heard. If it hasn't already been done, we should create a big group on Facebook to vent our frustrations.
I'm currently waiting to hear whether Mitsu will fix my sticky heater control knob and transmission rattle under warranty. As of today, it has been denied, pending review of additional photos of every nook and cranny of the vehicle. There are TSBs out for both issues, and my car is stock. Needless to say, I'm not planning on just rolling over if they decide to arbitrarily deny my claim.

I don't exactly see "what a tremendous marketing asset we could be" for them. Some of us would be helpful, but you need to realize that a lot of Evo, WRX and STI owners aren't exactly model drivers, in the sense that they beat up their cars, drive like maniacs on public roads, modify their cars ridiculously, etc. I don't know if they want to associate with that. Every so often, they'll cover the Evo enthusiast group in their marketing (as seen in the original Evo commercial in the U.S.), but I think that Mitsubishi and Subaru are both trying to move away from that stereotype while trying to broaden their appeal to include an older, more mature audience... hence the designs of the current models which are available without the wings.

I can't fault Mitsubishi or any car maker for voiding a warranty if the customer made extensive modifications to their vehicle or clearly abused it. But I'm hearing stories about guys with very, very light modifications (or modifications that do not affect performance in any way) being denied warranty coverage. And I've now found myself in a similar situation (see below).
Ok, "tremendous" was an overstatement. I was just getting a little emotional about the whole thing. Still, I do believe that Mitsubishi could use its Evo enthusiast group to help its brand image. Mazda has done a pretty good job of leveraging their motorsports/enthusiast following.
