ditching the Evo for an STi
I dont dont care how it looks , or what people think, I always wanted an evo - finnaly got here in 03, this is my second evo because I wanted 05 RS, I went for performance and handling - not the look - oh btw inside? sometimes people say it looks so simple - ok but its easy to take things apart if you want it.
One last time, dont compare evo to something else. You got tired of it? just sell it. Trade.

i think it all comes down how you drive your car!!! ive been launcing my car since ive got it.. put mods too it (Espelir Turboback,Works Filter,Custom TUNE).. More launches and everything seems too fine ova 75+launches. Learn too drive an EVO and you will never have the small issues come up. But then again i could have a BAD *** EVO from FACTORY cuz i have seen my buddie of mine go through 2 clutches, T/C and a tranny ionno how that happened but it did haha but yea if you do decide too trade in your EVO ive been hearing good reviews about the 07 STI buddie as one and i think its pretty darn flawless as everyone saying your gonna have pretty much the same problems just more $$$ to spend.. Just make sure everything your fixing is done proffesionally on your evo (thats not including DEALERS) then you will love your EVO once again.. and if i was gonna trade in my car i would get the 335i but i would miss AWD all day long!!!! thats my $.02 i love my IX and cant get enough of it!!
^^ nod on that, I dont baby my car neither, no problems until 47k, when i had to change the stock clutch because it start sliping on the track after adding meth. stock clutch wont hold 400+awhp when launched
and this is my dialy driver.
god this thread will never end

If I were you and had these kinds of problems on a basically new car. I would get rid of it and get something like a civic.
You don't need an evo, or an sti for that matter.
Also, if you have modifications remove them and sell them and leave it stock.
Obviously you can't drive if you have less that 10K , no track events and are having tranny problems and already a burnt clutch.

Been through the same thing. I was a bit fed up with the PO300 code I was getting and wasn't real happy with the mod path I with down on the 03 Evo. I eventually came back here - check below for my thread about buying a new 06 and comparing it to my 05 STI and 03 Evo:
I tend to buy/sell pretty quickly. My last 4 cars:
I'll jot down some notes later today for ya. I'll go snag what I wrote in the Subie forums when I first bought the STi and join it alltogether.
First impressions:
Steering - so light and quick. Man I've missed it.
Interior - very roomy, forgot how big it is inside. Seats look/feel awesome, but that's the end of the highlights! Guages are just too small imo.
Exterior - new taillights are awesome. New stock rims aren't bad looking. Love the new front bumper. Love the Electric Blue; much deeper/richer than my WRB Sti.
Mods planned (some tentative):
Full 3" TBE, Piggy-back (Utec/Xede if they ever come out). Boost guage, flip-up receiver, JL subs, amp, HUD unit, 18" rims. Maybe more, maybe less.

Some feedback after approx 1600 miles seat time...
Since most are concerned how the STi and Evo stack up directly, I've come up with the following:
Overall, between the STi and Evo, here's what I would take from each to build the better car (in my opinion):
Engine: STi low-end torque, Evo top-end hp. Fuel-economy pretty equal. Ease of installs kinda cancels out with basic bolt-on's.
Exhaust note: STi; hands-down boxer rumble better vs Evo droney
Interior: Evo IX black alcantra seats, Evo sunglasses pocket, all STi quality interior but with a different color option than the light blue standard. STi gauge layout with larger tach and speedo. Heat/Cool controls a draw. Evo interior seems much larger although lower quaility parts. STi DCCD control better than Evo's 3 simple ACD choices. When amped, Evo standards speakers (non-ssl upgrades) actually are a little better with treble.
Exterior: The most subjective probably. Evo IX front-end (non-hoodscoop), and a STi rearend that is wingless. Just what I'd like personally.

This guy has one of the more accurate unbiased sounding assesments I have seen.
Personally I straddle this issue on both sides using both cars. I like both of them and like ALL cars each has its plus and minuses. One note I will make about other cars mentioned, if you get frustrated with you evo, avoid an M3. The dumbest stuff just simply falls apart in addition to regular expect mechanical stuff. Its a nice car, but nothing wildly special and a bit frustrating for me.
Back on the STI/EVo:
Looks: doesnt really matter what anyone other than you think, but I give the nod to the Evo 9 MR by a little
Interior: STI is definitely smaller, especially on back seat room, front seats suck, over quality and finish is definitely better better. I actually put Evo seats in an STI for a great combination. Pedals are noticeable better on teh STI for heal toe
Engine: I think it is not acurate to say the STI cost way more to mod. A DP and flash gets you great power. Newer models have seen numbers aproaching 350whp on some pretty basic mods well tuned. Getting past that on stock turbo is not very likely. Going for big numbers does require a bit of additional effort over a Evo. All depends on your goals. Exhaust note is a big plus on the subaru. To block is a bit weaker, but again, that only matter is you are going serious power, and it can be helped.
Drivetrain: STI 6 speed is great and reliable. I slightly prefer this to both evo trannies, and its easier to work with. The MR 6 speed is basically a toss up to me with the STI.
Brakes suspension: Brakes are a tie. Evo is a little more advanced, but STI is a little easier to get rear camber out of if you want that
Handling: Evo definitely has a better feel and quicker steering, however with a few not very expensive mods and a proper setup, the STI can really be optimized to where it should have been and is basically a draw in all but feel.
Quality: STI...not many will argue that
Overal: toss up....just slightly different approaches at the same idea. I just prefer to have both..hehe
I think if I were in your position, unless you are completely fed up with your car and really want it gone, it make sense to hold on to it, and maybe wait for the new evo. At very least, STI prices should be down by then since both or coming out with new stuff. If you do get an sti, go 05 or newer.
Ive been having some drivetrain issues, really fed up with all the wasted time and money. Ive always liked the STi's looks more and for anyone who's not a profressional driver, probably could drive just as good with both cars.
So, how many of you own Evos and are thinking of trading it in/selling it for an STi?
Feel free to try your best to talk me out of it...

I personally think that if you had left your car stock. You would be loving it. You may just have a lemon, but i would consider taking everything off getting it back to stock. Drive it for a month and see if some of the weird crap goes away.
the 07 sti is nice and yes it has gotten much closer to the evos handling , but dude
when you drive the sti the handling is still not gonna feel as sharp as the evo, but you may not notice because the eibachs are handling like crap.
If your trans mission is trully Fubar considered shipping it out and haveing a reputable shop strenghthen it or you said its only got 13 miles on it fight tooth and nail with mitsu but be for you do turn it back to stock and take it to a different dealer that you havent taken it to.
Good luck
