On the exact same mods and boost (and day, within an hour and a half) between the Stock IX cams and DTM 280's I made 20 more WHP on the stock turbo. Is that not good enough? Your creating a huge restriction in the head by not letting enough of that air get in the motor. Not only that, but your tuner gave you "no timing". Timing has a significant effect on spoolup. You can delay or advance spool a great deal through tuning and properly running the turbo (i.e. in its efficiency range) with good fuel and free flowing passages to get the air into the motor. Like most people said a
Proper Tune
Cams/Porting the Head
Alcohol or Race Gas to allow more timing during spool with less chance of knock/detonation
More Boost
You should have a 500 whp (dynojet) car. With a built motor you could go much higher. On a built 2.0 and pump/alky with a 50 trim/35R hybrid I've seen almost 500 whp on a Mustang Dyno.
More air in the engine = more gas expelled = more air hitting the turbine = FASTER SPOOL!
sure timing might help spool, but how is changing to a higher duration cam going to allow you to increase timing?

the point is with a 35R and stock everything (as far as getting air into the motor sooner goes) it becomes a huge restriction and that is one of the factors of his slower spoolup.
check your connections from the turbo to manifold and the manifold to cyl head. make sure bolts are torqued down and the gaskets are not shot. reassure these are all sealed before getting a re-tune.
if those check out, its DEFINITELY your ****ty tune causing the late spool. timing has a lot to do with spool up. if your timing is ****ty, your car wont spool as quick as intended. without logs though, nobody on here can directly diagnose your problem.

I only push this question because one of the reasons I didn't cam my car was to allow me to putt around town at low RPMs. if you can prove that I won't lose any spool or that I'll gain then I'm going to cam my car soon.
the answer is simple, stock motor+stock cams = Laggy 35r , alot of the 35r u see are running on built 2.3, and jun cams. people some times forget that turbos run on exhaust, the evo already comes with a large turbo, now u throw on a huge turbo, what do u expect, u need more exhaust.
cams require more fuel and thus air, but that requirement doesn't help the turbo spool.
somebody must be able to explain this better?
I agree exhaust help increase spool like an intake does (both free up restriction) but cams won't help spool since they don't reduce restriction in any way??
things that help spool:
- exhaust
- intake
- timing
- electronic boost controller (can flutter wastegate?)
- I/C (smaller pressure drop)
- charge pipes that don't flex or reduce length
what else?

if your that unhappy with your set up....I will gladly take the 35r off your hands and give you my stocker in it's place :-)
Get some cams and Meth/Alky and a good tune and you should be surprised at your gains. You can also stroke your motor out which will help out greatly.

more fuel + more air = more exhaust. more exhaust = faster hotside. faster hotside= faster turbo.
