whats up guys,
so back to the topic, Im in central jersey and usually get around 22-26 mpg doing 60% highway and 40% local driving, rarely punch the line or anywhere near 4500rpm. Now a days, for the past 3 fill up ive been getting around 17-18mpg. this dramatic drop did come when i switched my tires from the stockers to bridgestone ultra performance as 960, and the tire size i got was 245/45/17 pumped up to 36 psi all around. Could this size difference have created more friction to cause me to lower mpg by that much? also i didnt do anything to the ride, bone stock. tire rack states that new tires have a coating of resin on that takes couple hundred miles to wear away and ive been on these tires for 1000+ miles. help meee

For me it depends on what octane I use. When I get gas from the station nearest to my house, (Circle K - 92) I get around 230/tank. When I get 94 octane from Sunoco, I get upwards of 300/tank. Also, in the cold I think it makes a huge difference if you let your car heat up before driving. When I cold start and drive immediately after I start the car, it chugs gas.
Do you guys notice a difference using Shell Gasoline compared to others? I swear by Shell gas and do everything in my power to get to one on fill up, even if it means rolling in there on fumes...
Shell has always worked best for me. Not only do I get better gas mileage, but It also feels like the car is making more power. I'm guessing that when I run crap gas like Citgo, it's pulling timing because it feels like I've got 4 people in the car when trying to accelerate.
Even with the stupid year round "up to 10% ethanol" that Illinois has (and still charges more than if it was straight 93 octane gasoline sold in other states) Shell still shows better gas mileage than other brands for me.
However, I don't have much room to complain about gas prices yet. I used to pay the equivalent of over $6 a gallon for 87 octane less than a year ago. I won't complain much at all until gas goes over $5 a gallon, honestly. However, the cheaper it stays, the better. I just wish they would pick a price and stick with it. Make it $4.50 for the next 3 years solid and don't allow any price increases until the three years is up.
