Its your choice but i will throw in my .02 cents.. seems like you need to get an evo.. If the m3 is not comfortable for you then maybe look around for more options.. maybe not just an evo. But like i said, if the evo felt like the way that you explained it, go with the evo!!

Get back into an Evo. The boost and the steering make the Evo a pretty special ride that is hard to duplicate in the current "dumbed down" automotive market. Even BMW fell into the trap and lost the special formula of the original M3 the E30 M3.

i would start looking for an Evo again. don't worry about the age issue. that doesn't matter. i would really like to say go either way but i would own Evo 7,8,9,10 before owning any bmw. there are many nice bmw's although, you can't beat the feeling you get when driving an evo.

Others vs. You

Some people care to much what others think...some don't care at all... well, it all depends...but when it comes to cars I think you should drive what your heart says..simple: a car is just a car, enjoy it...if u need a car to boost your ego or to get respect than u are not enjoying it, u are just driving it for OTHERS.

Get what u really want and have fun with it....

Your car does not define you, it's only one part of you.

If people have already made up their minds about you after just seeing what you drive, then they're not worth your time. You're in your mid-30's, you know who you are and what you're about. Pick a car that will make you happy.

The M3 is sexy, the Evo is passion...which do you prefer?

My 2cents... Try an Evo x 5 speed, with a tune and bolt ons it'll give you that feeling again but in a more grown up look I.e. Nav, cruise cntrl, Bluetooth, premium sound. Yet still faster then your e46 with more luxury then a nine to please the masses. Some ladies like the look of the x better then the nine no offense to anyone, just my two cents. I'm almost 30 and no ones ever considered me imature for going from an Acura tl 05, six speed To an Evo x cause it has all the same luxuries plus more give or take heated leather seats which I don't have in the Evo but you could get in your x. Good luck though and if all else fails go e92 335 with proceed for an easy 400 rwp!

i've had what many believe to be the most special and most fun M3 (read what evo mag says about in my sig). i put it through its paces too - drove to work daily, sometimes in light snow on r-comps (sounds bad, was lots of fun actually). had the abs disabled, refreshed motor that made decent power (and sounded FANTASTIC), chassis prep, very nice condition, and logged track time in a great running well maintained M3 in both rain and dry.

sold it and got back into an evo.

I sold my E46 M3 and now have an Evo 8. I am very happy with the switch. People that are not car guys will never understand it and will think you are crazy. I don't care what people think. The fun is back and I am faster than ever.

My dad is 57 years old. He is an Assistant Superintendent for a big school district. He has a built '95 Eclipse GSX and a stock, wingless Evo MR as a DD. He had an Audi A4 and was looking into a new BMW 335xi. He loved the 335xi, he loved the new 2008 (at the time) A4 he test drove as well. But at the end of the week, he brought home a used 2005 Evo MR from CBRD. He wanted to get a BMW or another Audi to keep a good image as a school administator. Though he really liked the BMW a lot, he wanted a car that made him truely happy. I pulled the wing off for him and replaced it with a Rexpeed wing just too keep the car a bit more low-key.

Point is, screw making others happy.

Like I already said, I've driven and love e46 M3's. I wish to own one someday along with an e30 and e92 (ehh, e36 maybe). I simply don't have one because I can't afford it.

And again as far as the image that an Evo gives a person, who cares. Despite being based off an economey car, it has worldclass performance.

It's like the wingless/winged scenario. I'm only 23 years old but I hate being grouped by other people as being in the "fast and furoius" crowd. I've had my wing on and off 3 or 4 times. While I do actually like the car a wingless Evo looks, it takes away some unwanted attention, which is nice. But I prefer the wing. So I decided to not give a crap what others think. Put the wing back on and it's been back on for months. The car makes me happy despite it's stereo-type.

Driving a friend's old E30 is what made me get an Evo in the first place. They do share the same connectivity to the road.
