IMO, no. I went with Advance Auto's AutoCraft Gold Series battery and have zero complaints. I do keep in mind that I am in an area where I am usually not under adverse weather conditions year round, so I can't comment on how well it holds up in more severe winters like what you guys typically get up north.

Miata Battery...It's lighter OEM and you can find it at any Auto parts store if it ever dies on you. Plus it won't degrade like mini batteries do

That sounds like a very good option. How easy is it to trim the stock tray? Are there any other options?

I've done like 5 of these.... You just cut horizontally where it says EVO on the battery tray ( easy to cut). then depending on which short route UICP you have ( I have the muse) you cut diagonally to make it fit and done.

Bump for more options..... I don't really want to have to mod another Red Top like i did for my old car. Any one know of a replacement battery that is the same size as OEM? The battery in my IX is taking a crap and i want to replace before winter. Keep in mind, i basically want one thats the same size as OEM.

The miata battery is a 7581R at any Napa store I believe. It's only like 320 CCA though so probably not great for cold weather guys.
