My car has two rattles even while idling!!! I think I really got screwed here. I can't believe I got stuck with a lemon car again (had a lemon 97 cobra). Damn it.

Had a rattle in the sunroof and around the gauge cluster in the winter. However now that the weather is warming up the noises seem to be going away.

When it's open you probably just can't hear the rattle due to the wind noise. My car doesn't have a sunroof though, so I couldn't tell ya from experience.

Seat Rattle:

I have a passenger side seat rattle at speed. I've sprayed the rails with some lube, but its still there. Nothing major or anything. I can barely hear it with the radio off.

Anyone have any advice on something else to try?

thanks,
Rob

It's probably the slide adjuster making the noise. I took mine into the dealership and they fixed it for me, only took him 15 minutes. Of course, I had to go through the obligatory 'we couldn't reproduce the noise' thing first. So, I took him on a test drive and the damn seat didn't so much as squeak the whole time! Still, I showed him how much play was in the handle and he just took the play out of it and all is good now.

I've got rattles all over the place, I figure its to be expected with a suspention that stiff. The only one that annoys me is my drivers seat now SQUEAKS when i press back on it.

A-pillar noise

this is a really long thread, and i admit I didn't read every post, but what parts i did read, never addressed the a-pillar/windsheild noise that seems to come from the passenger side top of glove compartment dash area. I have found the source of this noise. It's the outside black plastic/rubber molding/trim piece that runs vertically from the bottom to the top of the windshield. Have someone sit inside your car, then while you stand on the outside....grab this molding in the area of the windshield that you would guess the noise comes from with your fingers and kind of work it back and forth against the windshield....if your experiencing the problem...you will be able to hear a kind of creaking noise as you work the rubber molding piece...I'm not sure if it's the actuall rubber making the noise as it's being manipulated, or if the noise is coming from the rubber rubbing on the windshield. The noise you hear while standing on the outside, doesn't sound exactly like the noise you hear while sitting inside the car. Once you locate the sound that I'm explaining....switch places with the person sitting inside the car...and have them move the rubber/plastic molding in the same manner.....while sitting in the car, you will hear the noise and there will be no doubt that this is in fact the noise that's been driving you crazy. One note of importance is, you will notice that this noise does not occur if it's raining, because the rain acts as a lubricant. Let me know if you find what I've written to be true. I've sprayed some wd-40 along this molding from top to bottom of the windshield....and it seems to work for awhile....but the noise comes back after a time.

Yeah, we covered this about 4 pages back . If you get some masking tape and stick it down the noise goes away. People have tried using some sort of sealing compound and the noise went away for a while but did come back.

I responded to a similar post before about this subject.
When I first bought the car everything was tight and no sounds.

Around 10,000 miles now and some screws have loosened up a bit. Especially the ones attaching plastic to sheet metal. I went through many of them to tighten them up. There is not much you can do since our car tends to vibrate and the only way to keep screws from vibrating loose into plastic is with loctite (bad idea IMO). The good news is that the bolts that attached sheemetal to sheetmetal were super tight.

You need to change the transmission oil around 1500 miles as many metal shavings would have accumulated from break in. Once I did this my transmission operated very smoothly.

Last item is try to drive your car not in 5th gear at low rpm as it just makes the car vibrate like a tuning fork.

There is a documented loose plastic window trim that will rattle
from the wind. You need to put some butyl rubber to buffer it or take it to your dealer so they can do this.

P.S. Dynomat your doors - it makes a huge difference in road noise

I have had that B Pillar rattle for several weeks now and I have hit my limit with it. I'm looking to fix it. It sounded like the window was creaking against the rubber seals. So I sprayed down the rubber with some 303 UV Surface Protectant but it didn't help. Now I'm convinced its coming from inside the B pillar cover. I haven't pop'ed it off yet, but I was checking the forums first. It seems to only go away when I put pressure on the glass. If I press on the B Pillar cover or the door, it does not stop. However, if I push hard enough on the door which of course puts pressure on the window it also stops, but it takes more force than just the window.

Were you able to fix the B Pillar rattle?

Thanks for any help,
smanders

One of the car magazines had the B pillar rattle in their test car. The way I remember it, they said it was fixed with double sided sticky tape by the dealer but it didn't go into detail. If you figure out a good fix, please post it. I also have this rattle.

The passenger side rattle near the windshield stops when I have been running my heater after awhile so I am certain that the cold weather is causing this issue. Have a feeling the dealership would have no luck fixing it either.
